Description
For years we brewed beers in our basement when we read an article in October 2010 about the Brouwland beer competition. We decided to risk our chances and sent our version of a Trappist beer, a dark beer, full malt, of 10%.In March 2011 we were informed that we were selected for the final. Beginning in April 2011 was ultimately the final. The seven finalist beers were tasted by beer connoisseurs, Zythologists Rijckers Anne and Yannick De Cocteau and some Belgian brew masters like Paul Arnott (Dubuisson), and Jean-Marie De Rock (Orval). The first beers were tasted and judged one for one, much was noted. Mutually there was not much talk together ,until they started our beer (the final seven beers were tasted in order of alcohol). All jurors began to talk to each other and two of them even gave us a thumbs up. Then, we knew it was good. After fifteen minutes of deliberations they announced the winner … Vliegend Paard Brouwers from Oedelem with their Préaris Quadrupel.

11 maanden gerijpt in Cognac vaten laat zich smaken. Komt zwaar binnen. Duidelijke graansmaak. Niet echt mijn ding.

Appearance is amber, clear, a 1-2 finger white head. Aroma- hops, orange hints, fruit, wheaty malt. Taste- bitter hops, spicy hints, malt backbone, fairly full mouthfeel.

Flaske 330ml delt med Rune på Skarven. Varm gylden. Uklar. Lavt luftig skum. Aroma av søt frukt. Smaken plommer. Litt tørr & søt etter hvert. Mye bunnfall.

330ml bottle, shared with Finn at Vertshuset Skarven. Fluffy white head over a hazy apricot coloured body. Crocheted lacing. Rather restrained aroma of ripe citrus and grass. Herbal hops to the flavour profile with moments of spiced dried fruits and yeast. Rounded palate. Decent beer and a satisfying partner to my Yuletide lunch. (Tromsø 20.12.2017).

Bottle from Ohtsuki Saketen. Prearis X-mas 5% A beautiful honey gold with a peppery herbal hop bouquet, stone fruits, honey and biscuits. Not at all what I was expecting. Medium to light bodied and dry. The taste is a fruity Belgian pale ale with some sweetness at first but then you get piney hops bitterness. A fun Christmas beer that is slightly non-traditional. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle, 375 ml, at MBR, Kiselo Druženje. Courtesy of Ugo. Pours brown with slightly yellowish head. Caramel, malty, some dried fruit, some wood, bourbon is quite strong. Sweet, bitterness in finish. Low carbonation, some alcohol. Medium bodied, maybe a bit thin for abv. Interesting, but bit of a mess.

Bottle shared in Hackney - sourced from an online shop. Pours black-brown with a fizzy tan head that settles into a thin cream. Soft roasted malts on the nose, some burnt butterscotch and toffee, dried berries. Medium sweet flavour with notes of brown bread, berries, alcohol, background toasted malts. Medium to full bodied, somewhat oily, with fine carbonation. Sweet and warming in the finish, with further toasted toffee, dried fruits, hints of cocoa. Not bad overall.
