Description
Gigantic Brewing Company is an independent, crafty brewery located in the Southeast quadrant of the Peoples Republic of Portland. Brewer/Owners Ben Love and Van Havig are veterans of the Oregon brewing community.

At Gigantic we only do two things: make the best damn IPA in Portland, Oregon and produce seasonal, exciting, flavorful beers, most of which will be brewed only once. Our goal is simultaneously to create new interpretations of classic styles and to ignore those same style guidelines completely and brew whatever our creative natures produce.

On tap at the Alibi Room, pours a clear golden with a small white head. Aroma and flavour of pale biscuity malts, some floral hops, and a touch of dry piney hops. Solid and refreshing, but nothing that exciting. Well-made pale ale.

Bomber from Belmont Station. Pours dark ruddy copper with a slight beige head. Aroma is mixed hop over a rather strongly roasted malt. Nearly full bodied. Flavor seems to start chocolate, switches to mixed hop - citrus/pine - shows heavy malt - lights a mild burning in the throat. It’s sweet, towards brown sugar, but there’s so much hop that doesn’t really matter. This is not quite accurate, but it finishes bittersweet. Couldn’t resist.

Super hazy bronze and amber coloured body with a very muddy, ruby-tinted glow and a thick two centimetre tall tan head. Aroma of strong earthy, piney and floral hops with a kick of chocolate, alcohol and a bit of fruit sweetness. Medium to Full-bodied; Strong flavour at first of heavy malt, some light chocolate and a good earthy, nutty flavour with some hop notes soon afterwards with a lot of emphasis on earthy, resinous and perfumey hop notes. Aftertaste shows a fairly good balance (if that is even possible) of chocolate and hops with a good sweetness, a decent amount of alcohol and if anything is off - perhaps a bit too thick of body. Overall, a nice and interesting beer that was better than I expected and very cool to try back here on this coast. I sampled this 65 cL bottle purchased from Belmont Station in Portland, Oregon on 12-April-2013 for US$5.19 sampled at home in Washington on 29-July-2013.

Bomber from Belmont Station. Pours golden amber with a slight white head. Smells earthy with touch of sweat sox. Full bodied or nearly. Flavor is sweet struggling to overcome Belgian yeast/spice and some seemingly earthy hop. There’s fruit ester. Maybe a hint of pineapple. All in all it’s tasty, and it does try to finish dry. Doesn’t quite make it, but there’s some pleasing bitter.

On tap at Harry’s Hofbrau. Overt, clean citrus hops and orange hop flavor. Hazy, beautiful sunset orange with full white head. Slight lacing. Dissipates to a ring. Flavor of juicy citrus mostly orange. Moderate bitterness lets the hop flavor shine. Slight soda cracker malt. Really elegant for a DIPA.

Bomber from Belmont Station. Pours light amber with a slight white head. Aroma is mixed resin/citrus/grass. Med body, barely. Flavor is light roast malt with some grassy hop. Seems a little astringent. It’s ok. Not the hop bomb anticipated tho. Nice hoppy, bitter APA.

Bottle - Dark fruit, brown sugar, bit of alcohol. Dark mahogany with a thin brown head. Rasin, prune, lots of sugar and very boozy. A nice stong, but a bit too much booze.
