At Gigantic we only do two things: make the best damn IPA in Portland, Oregon and produce seasonal, exciting, flavorful beers, most of which will be brewed only once. Our goal is simultaneously to create new interpretations of classic styles and to ignore those same style guidelines completely and brew whatever our creative natures produce.

Deep dark brown coloured body with a rich, two centimetre tall tan head. Aroma of nice rich roasty malt, oatmeal, caramel, grass, pine and a good amount of lighter, but still assertive hops. Medium to Full-bodied; Strong roasty flavour of malt and caramel mixed with a big dose of grassy and citrusey PNW hops with a super rich earthy and sweet finish. Aftertaste shows a very rich almost chocolatey malt finish with a lot of sweetness, but even more hop bitterness - very good and very strong. Overall, a very nice Black IPA that borders on being an Imperial Black IPA, perhaps it is so - but it’s a very good beer, drinkable, yet assertive and strong. Probably the best so far of this numbered series of Gigantic beers, and one that I wish I had more of! I sampled this 65 cL bottle purchased from Pearl Specialty Market in Portland, Oregon on 26-April-2013 for US$7.99 sampled at home in Washington on 11-October-2013.

Purchased from Bring on the Beer.
It pours a slightly hazy gold, forms a nice 1 finger head of foam, and leaves some lovely lacing.
Man, there’s a lot of lemon citrus in the nose with some hints of some malt...bread or biscuit. I like taking whiffs cuz I like that lemony aroma.
The smell was a bit deceiving vs the taste. I don’t get a whole lot of lemon citrus here..it’s mostly biggish piney notes with a solid biscuit malt flavour that really balances the hops and malts. Even swishing the beer in my mouth doesn’t bring out much of that lemony goodness. As the beer warms, I do get some citrus, mild as it is but it helps.
Well, this is an interesting brew that improves as it warms but still doesn’t hit my comfort zone, which is VERY wide for the style. Just an above average IPA.

Deep super dark brown coloured body with a large, five centimetre tall light brown head that stays afloat for quite a long time. Aroma of roasted malt, tons of milk and lactic notes, some pit fruits, grapes, oak and a bunch more milky notes. Medium-bodied; Assertive raisin and grape sweetness with a hint of light spices, a touch of earthy and anise flavours and a good dose of alcohol and bitterness at the end. Aftertaste shows a good roasted malt flavour with some dry oak and vanilla noticeable, but a good malt flavour cut with some strong sugars. Overall, a nice porter - nothing too special, but a solid beer and well worth trying if you can find it! I sampled this 65 cL bottle purchased from Belmont Station in Portland, Oregon on 12-April-2013 for US$4.98 sampled at home in Washington on 03-September-2013.
