Cask at the Castle - Farringdon, London. Pours clear, rich gold with a frothy, off-white head. Nose is heaving with ripe and dank tropical fruits: melon, mango, papaya. Medium sweet flavor with lots of juicy fruits, tropical and citrus like, with light bread and pine, melon and orange. Medium bodied with fine carbonation. Good condition. Moderately sweet to finish, subtly resinous, with sticky and ripe tropical fruits, a bit of bitter orange rind. Impressively solid.

Cask @ Southwestern Arms, Southampton. Dark gold or light copper, take your pick. Perfume aroma. Roses and gardenias. Taste starts alarmingly sweet, so the bitter aftertaste and finish are particularly welcome. Full but slightly oily mouthfeel. Personally I’m not overly keen, but there’s no denying that it’s a well-crafted recipe.

First rating - 30/10/2013. Cask at the Square Bottle (JDW), Chester. RB score 7/3/8/4/16 (3.8) Light amber with a moderate white head. Lots of pine, grapefruit and lemon with sweet mango behind, before an assertive bitterness in the finish. Purity generally seem to make decent beers, and this is a cracking US-style pale ale that I enjoyed even more the more I drank it. Second rating - 28/11/2014. From the brewer’s own stand at the Good Food Show, Birmingham NEC. RB score 9/3/9/5/18. Yes! A winner! Melon, mango and all things tropical up front in abindant quantities with some pine coming along in the aftertaste. Very, very smooth - a cuddly kind of mouthfeel. THis is fantastic. More please,, Mr Purity. Thankyou very much. Yes, it’s still fabulous. Marvellous ! Yes! YES! YEEESSS! Overall rating is the average of all ratings.

Cask at the Back of Beyond (JDW), Reading. Golden amber with a loose cream head; aroma of pineapple and grapefruit; soft, soapy texture, with some tropical fruit flavours, and ahoney sweetness; then a lasting, pleasant, woody, bitterness. Really good.
