Description
Robbert Orano started White Pony. He is a home brewer with Belgian roots. He has a great preference for craft beer and heavier Belgian beers. The White Pony brewery makes beer in an artisanal way, unpasteurized and unfiltered. And bottles the beer with respect for the old tradition. But all this is done with an innovative view of the brewing process.

Aroma of malt, ripe fruits, yeast, floral notes, soms hops. Flavour is moderate sweet with a mild bitter finish. Overall this is a very mild Belgian-style IPA.

Bottle at home. Aroma is dark malt, caramel, chocolate, coffee, touch of dark fruits, bit nutty, raisins, sugary, some roast, light coffee and liquorice. Flavour is medium sweet with a little bitterness in the finish. Body is medium. A bit too Belgian to really impress me as an Imperial Porter. On the sugary sweet side. Fairly enjoyable beer though.

Bottle at home. Aroma is malt, caramel, lots of candy sugar, toffee, nuts, yeast, raisins, slight spicy notes, dark bread. Flavour is massive cloying sweetness. Body is medium. Ouch, such massive sweetness, at a few points it was like drinking pure brown sugar. Too much for my taste.

Bottle at home. Aroma is sweet fruits, ripe peach, grainy malt, dried apricot, ripe citrus, hops. Flavour is sweet and above moderate bitter. Body is medium. Not terrible but far too sweet and unfresh, definitely not my kind of IIPA.

Bottle from Beerwulf. Aroma is roasted malt with cocoa, chocolate, some fruity notes and coffee, light chalky. Flavour is moderate sweet and bitter. Body is medium with lively carbonation. I struggle to point out the Saison aspect, more like a Dry Stout. Anyway, not bad.

15 September 2024. At 16de Brugs Bierfestival. Cheers to Anke, Kevin & Jerre!

Brandy, fondant, black olive, fried mushroom. Sweet dried fig, prune, umami mushroom, fudge. Herbal & peppery hops, warming brandy-like alcohol. Lacks some roastiness for a Stout, but not disagreeable.

This 33 cl bottle came from Smaakhuis early last year. I'm getting through my quadrupel inventory, saving a White Pony beer for near the end. Teku glass ready, I lift the cap and pour. The body is dark cola brown veering towards black and completed by a here-now and disappearing cover of parchment tan foam. I take a smell and it jumps out at me. Bright red fruit, some yeast esters and perhaps bread. Unusual for a quad. And the taste is likewise not the standard. Red cherries, grain, malt, a bit of chocolate and wood. The beer sweetens up a bit as it warms. The sensation is absolutely dense. And the taste reminds somewhat of a candy bar from my youth called a Cherry Mash. This brew registers quite a distance from my favorite quads from the brewery.

Bottle shared at the CBJ tasting, thanks to Kenneth, 15/11/23. Black topped with a tan head. Nose is dark malts, spice, charr, rich roast, dark chocolate. Taste comprises roasted bite, charr, cocoa powder, hint of soy sauce and umami, molasses, toasted brown sugar. Medium bodied with bite, fine carbonation, semi drying close. Okay sipper but coming over tired.
