I have been looking forward to this one. I like White Pony's quadrupels and also appreciate a quad that is barrel aged. The label says the beer was aged in Calvados and bourbon barrels. I have a 33 cl bottle that was acquired from bierhandelwillems. The top comes off and I pour inside of a Trappistes Rochefort glass. I see a body that is toffee colored and finished by a steady, highly carbonated cover of parchment tan foam. The nose is an impressive belt of booze, ripe fruit, grain and wood. To me, the taste is phenomenal. Better than I hoped. Oak, dates, sweet red cherries, leather, malt, candi sugar, baked bread, a hint of sour fruit from somewhere, a little hops bitterness and well-blanketed alcohol that works through. I enjoy Calvados by itself and that flavor comes through unquestionably. A really good quadrupel, outstanding in my estimation. Not the equal of Monolith or T-34, other quads from White Pony, but close. A sad moment for me, if the announced termination of RateBeer goes through, this will be the last White Pony beer I will rate here. And that is, in equal part, disappointing and inexcusable.

21/9/2024. Bottle from Beer52. Pours clear bright amber gold with a frothy off-white head. Aroma is buttery, caramel, raisins, sweet malts, toffee, breads, yeast. Medium plus sweetness, moderate bitterness. Medium body, very smooth, average carbonation. Quite liked this.

2 May 2024. Old botte from somewhere - Deconinck? Guesswork at this point. Lot. 1/2019. Hazy black, stable, frothy, dark beige head. Intense aroma of toast, brownie, (bloody) iron, black olive, prune, wholemeal bread, espresso, earth, leather, vague manure. Taste has sweet prune & fig and slight sourish blackcurrant against a dark-chocolatey, brown-bready, toasted-nutty malt backbone with earthy-umami black olive notes underneath. Earthy hoppy finish, a bit metallic but not disturbing, more umami and espresso roast and heating brandy-like alcohol. Full body, oily texture, soft carbonation. This has aged particularly well, with the malt profile maintained to carry the alcohol.

21/VII/24 - 33cl bottle from De Hopduvel (Gent), shared @ Bouvier’s place, BB: n/a, 2013 vintage (2024-564)
Clear dark red brown beer, big aery irregular off-white head, unstable, non adhesive, falls down quickly. Aroma: pretty oxidized, caramel, malty, some cardboard, hint of vanilla. MF: ok carbon, medium body. Taste: sweet start, caramel, malty, sugary, oxidized. Aftertaste: sugary, a bit oxidized, lots of caramel, sweet, some more alcohol, meh. Not very good, but not too bad either.
0,33 litre Can, from a Craft Beer Store in Budapest, at home. Almost Black with brown head. Roasted Malts, coffee, vanilla, barrel, calvados, some booze.

CBJ Tasting. Bottle thanks to me. Semi opaque dark brown beer, small pale tan head. Airy palate, soft and mildly dry, decent fine carbonation. Soft fluffy dark malts. Boxy caramel. Ripe fruits. Light soft finish. A decent beer with one remarkable aspect, it goes down easy for a brew just shy of 20%
