Description
Robbert Orano started White Pony. He is a home brewer with Belgian roots. He has a great preference for craft beer and heavier Belgian beers. The White Pony brewery makes beer in an artisanal way, unpasteurized and unfiltered. And bottles the beer with respect for the old tradition. But all this is done with an innovative view of the brewing process.

White Pony brews up some really good quadrupels, I always like sampling whatever I can get from them. This evening it's an imperial stout from a nice Belgian seller. I lift the cap before pouring inside of a globe glass, dark brown in color with an appropriate skim of fawn tan foam. The scent is heavy with chocolate malt, berries and grain. The taste is all right, the sensation less so. Chocolate of course, raspberries, grain, straw, a hint of booze, a touch of wood, but all somewhat subdued. Surprisingly thin. Something of a letdown unfortunately.

On tap @White Pony (Padova). Nera, densa, impenetrabile, schiuma colore cappuccino media, abbastanza persistente. Al naso note di cioccolato fondente, liquirizia e caffè, leggerissima nota di oliva in salamoia. In bocca è abboccata all'attacco con chiusura amara a bilanciare, cioccolato fondente e leggero caffè. Corpo pieno, carbonazione medio-leggera. Non in perfette condizioni, comunque buona

Bottle shared at CBJ - cheers! Pours black-brown with a small, creamy tan head. Medium to big sweet flavour with notes of ripening semi-dark fruits, toasted coconut, toffee, cocoa, raisins. Medium to full bodied with fine carbonation. Sweet and warming in the finish, more ripe and dried dark berries, raisins, bit of cocoa and toasted coconut. Really tasty gear.

On tap @White Pony (Padova). Dorata viva, intensa, mediamente torbida, schiuma bianca media, abbastanza persistente. Al naso note di frutta candita, bubblegum, esteri, frutta gialla, etilico. In bocca è abboccata, con amaro leggero a bilanciare e una punta acidula, non particolarmente secca. Corpo medio, carbonazione medio-leggera. Si beve, nulla più.

Bottle shared at tasting. Black color with a red hue. Aroma and flavor are malts, brown malts, slightly sweetish initially, moderately bitter in the finish. Solid.

Flesje thuis gedronken. Donkerbruin tot robijnrood bier met matig schuim dat als een film blijft liggen. Heel licht aroma van pruimen en kersen. Smaak is zoet en karamel-achtig. Nasmaak is houtig en licht bitter maar ook plakkerig.

Pours a dark ruby brown, small creamy offwhite head. Scent is dark malts, tad chocolaty, sweet impressions. Not too loud but feels rather heavy. Taste is sweet, very malty indeed. Some chocolate. Typical WP thick, sweet beer. Intensity is rather high as well. Has a minor touch of bitterness, and due to the high maltyness, feels far less sugary than some others by this brewer - which is a benefit to me. Hides the 12 % very well. Just a touch of yeastyness to create some complexity, allthough it's still not a super complex beer. Enjoyable for sure though.

Can. Opaque black brown beer, good tan head. Smooth and airy palate, decent fine carbonation on the back end. Soft dark malts, good creamy darkish chocolate. A nice malty vibe brings an overall dark chocolate Malteasers. A decent coffee streak underneath. The back end is all about the Cognac barrel, which is rather nice. Smooth but rich fruity Cognac with that good ripe grape fruitiness that speaks of a quality spirit. Nice job overall. No real heat here despite the hefty 14%
