On-tap at beer deluxe. Dark brown with hints of ruby, and a thick creamy light-brown head.Aromas leap out of the glass, with grapes, straweberry jam, bubblegum, citrus notes, dates, very perfumy and vinuous. Could go on forever.More grapes from the taste, as well as some toasted malt, rolled oats, passionfruit, and a decent bitter backing.Mouthfeel is very rich and thick, with a well-suited mild carbonation. Wouldn’t want too many of these in a row, so heavy.Bottled version is no where near as good, there’s less depth, less fruit, and the alcohol isn’t tamed

Bottle. Poured muddy brown with no head. Pleasant but not very pronounced caramel aroma. Full bodied, creamy palate with light carbonation. Malty caramel initial taste with a hint of pears transforming to a rather too bitter burnt caramel finish with a hint of dark chocolate. I expected a lot more, so was disappointed. It’s OK, but it lacks finesse. [Two years on, I had another bottle: I appreciated it much more. However I have not changed my original scores. The appearance was clear this time and the taste was more appealling.]

A muddy orange-brown beer with a thin beige head. The aroma is sweet malty with a clear wheat presence, while the flavor is dry wheaty with light notes of apples.

(Bottle 33 cl) Pours a hazy pale golden with a small, white head. Rather neutral aroma with a vague tartness. Light-bodied with a distinct sourness - grapefruit I believe. No bitterness. Thanks to Highlandlad for this one. 150306

Muddy blond color. The aroma is sour. Infected? Sourish taste, with yeast, citrus fruits, light spices. Useless.

The name reminds me more of shoepolish than of beer - but I took a chance and sampled it anyways. The beer is dark amber with next to no head. The aroma is sweet malty with notes of alcohol and prunes. The flavor is sweet with notes of over ripe fruit and a slight acidity.

Bottle at London Gathering Nov 2005. Nice deep chestnut colour with lasting beige head. Nice hoppy, raisiny aroma and intense hop. Good choc malt in mouth. Intense hop/grapefruit on end. Good beer, could have drunk more of this

Bright burgundy-brown. Earthy, blackberryish malt aroma. The palate is malty - not as rich as the 11% abv would suggest, though. In keeping with the Aussie tradition, it’s pretty restrained. The palate is malty with hints of nuts and dark fruit, but not much alcohol. Drinkable, but aside from the light character it’s not especially distinctive.

Bottle, many thanks to mullet for bringing this over from Down Under to Belgium.
Hazy, ruby brown colour. Creamy, light brown head, which diminishes totally. A spare lace. Nose of (alcoholic) malts (caramel), banana and liquor. Flavour like a fully bodied stout. Moderately bitter, lightly sweet initial flavour. Moderately bitter finish, which lasts long. The finish is quite alcoholic too. This was my first barley wine ever, but I did like it. Pitty they’re so hard to find here in Belgium.
