Description
Pretty Things Beer & Ale Project began on a shoestring budget in 2008. We exist to allow 20 year professional brewer Dann Paquette to make an honest living while giving his imagination free reign. We brew our beers in other people's breweries because we can't afford our own. We enjoy the up-at-dawn lifestyle and the freedom to brew beers of our own imagining. We brew all our beers ourselves: Dann brews and formulates, Martha mills in. We dream up our beers together, inspired by Europe, by history, and by BEER and all it can be. We are based in Somerville, but brew mostly in Westport, MA, hence the early mornings. Cheers!

Deep dark brown coloured body with a thinnish, fast-dying tan head and a touch of a muddied brown glow. Aroma toasted malt, alcohol, pit fruits, raisins, earth and a bit of caramel. Medium to Full-bodied; Strong rich malty flavour at first with alcohol, toffee, earth, grain and an oaky and cedar flavour up front that fades to a smooth caramel sweetness that finishes with some alcohol and bitterness from hops and unfinished sugars from caramel and fruits. Aftertaste is smooth-ish with some caramel strength and a dose of hops and bitterness coupled with oaky and dry flavours and finishing with a ton of alcohol warmth. Overall, a nice barley wine with good flavours and a rich finish showing some nutty and earthy finishes that shows some alcohol, but relatively smooth for the style. I sampled this 65 cL bottle purchased from Whole Foods in New York (Bowery), New York on 05-December-2016 for US$9,99 sampled at home in Washington on Christmas Day, 25-December-2016. 22oz bottle shared by Kraig. A really nice, classic, huge Imperial Stout. Pleasantly not barrel aged. A big hop balance, but kind of covered up by the huge chocolate malts. A touch syrupy in the finish, maybe boosted with some sugar. Pretty good.

Bottle: Poured a black color stout with a nice large light brown foamy head with good retention and some lacing. Aroma of roasted malt with nice black chocolate notes. Taste is a nice mix of roasted malt with some smooth black chocolate notes with light dry bitter notes. Body is full with nice creamy texture and good carbonation with no apparent alcohol. This is just well made and highly drinkable imperial stout.

On tap @ Blind Tiger House. Yupp, it's a black one this. A really deep dark chocolate brown head that's leaving curtains and dots down the sides of the glass. Smells superb roasted and thick creamy. Lots of chocolate and darker roasted coffee mocha, soft hints of sweet marzipan and marshmallows. Lovely. Tastes superb also. It's both sweet and almost a little wood acidic - in a really good way. Thick and almost chewy on the texture and it's prickling and below average on the carbonation. So much dark chocolate in this. Ben and Jerry pish-food also. A lovely tasting one! 21.06.2015

In mouth, beautiful mix of sweet chocolate, vanilla extract, light coffee, oily mouth feel, alcohol warmth, very nice and complex. Bottle from Boutip at GRMs tasting.
