Bright amber - just a shade lighter (more copper) than the Thirsty Beaver. Light hop character and a hint of yeasty toastiness. Moderate body with a slightly sweet finish.

2021 rating. No longer brewed in its hometown of Kelowna, but nevertheless that's where I grabbed a can of what was once one of the absolute go-to IPAs in BC. That was a long time ago, and times have changed. Dark amber colour, with just a slight chill haze and a fairly thick head. The aroma is not what I was expecting - it's actually emphasizing biscuity and worty malts, fresh and slightly toasty. Hops aren't a big factor in the aroma. On the palate, that same big biscuity, honeyish malt character remains prominent. Moderate bitterness. Limited hop expression beyond bitterness, just some piney notes to complement the malts. I don't know what to make of this. It's not really an IPA, more like a hoppy amber. I like the malt character, but it seems out of place and is definitely out of sync with the hops. And yet, total package, it's a good beer. 7 3 7 3 14 = 3.4 2005 rating (back when this was a beer you sought out!): Bright copper colour. Aroma is mainly woody hops, with earthy, toasty accents. Slightly creamy body. Appetizing bitterness. Doesn’t match the resiny American hop monsters but is true to the style of a quaffing PNW IPA. Balancing malts are like whole grain bread crust. The hops are refreshing and woody. Hophead could do with a little more aromatic punch but overall is an excellent, well-balanced IPA.6 3 8 5 17 = 3.9

Robust, complex malt flavours. Good dose of dark malt bitterness and light yeastiness. One of the better ales on the shelves of BC Liquor Stores.

A much-appreciated change of pace from the slew of mediocre anglo-american ales in canada. Good flavour development. Mellower than the best of the style, but still a quality brew.
