On tap at Winter Warmer: Poured a cloudy dark brown color ale with a small foamy head. Aroma consists of candy mix in with some vanilla and luscious notes of bourbon. This has to be one of the most pleasant but over the top aromas I had the chance to experience – very nice but ends up being too much after a while. Taste is a complex mix between some candy notes with some bourbon and some residual sugar. Vanilla and light woody notes are also perceptible. Body is full with an oily texture and some good carbonation for the style with no apparent alcohol. Very intriguing and something I would mind having once in a while in small servings.

A cognac amber ale with a thick lacing and creamy mocha head. In aroma, a rather buttery caramel malt with light strawberry notes. In mouth, a sweet caramel with light floral hops, overwhelmed by butterscotch. On tap at Brouhaha, March 11, 2012.

A hazed blonde wit with a thin creamy lacing white head. In aroma, classic wit with cloves, bananas, creamy and smooth. In mouth, a smooth wheaty malt with fruity esters, bananas and berries, chalky notes, very nice. On tap at Brouhaha, March 11, 2012.

A deep dark brown ale with a very thin off white head. In aroma, intense milk chocolate, powdery and smooth, perfumey, not bad. In mouth, a smooth minty chocolate milk, nice and smooth, vanilla notes, alcohol warmth. On tap at Montreal Winter Warmer, Feb. 25 2012.

Sample from a friend’s bottle served cool. Pours inky black with a big, foamy cream head. Aroma is a lighter coffee, chocolate, some roasted notes. Flavour is more of the same, not particularly sweet even at the start and fading to a pleasant bitterness with minimal acidity. Finish fairly short. Mouthfeel was moderate, somewhat creamy but not terribly substantial, with very low carbonation. A good example of an Irish dry stout, not my favourite style but this one nails it.

A deep dark stout with a thin dark brown head. In aroma, definite strawberry and espresso coffee, with light grassy notes, very nice. In mouth, a smooth sweet chocolate with strawberry pulp, lingering acidity, and some nice coffee grinds, earthy, oily mouthfeel, wow! On tap at Vices and Versa, Feb. 10 2012.

Cruchon 1,82L sous le nom "U-165 Black two-Penny" et titrant à 4,9% d’alcool (brassin #283). De couleur brune très foncée et plutôt claire. Nez de malt rôti, moyen de chocolat noir, léger de houblon herbeux avec des notes de café ainsi que des traces de noix grillées. Mince-moyenne en bouche avec un pétillement moyen et une texture aux faibles notes crémeuses. Faibles traces de chocolat au lait lors de l’entrée en bouche qui fait rapidement place à un goût de malt rôti doux avec un léger-moyen goût de chocolat noir puis en finale l’on retrouve une légère amertume de houblon herbeux (herbes fraîches), un léger goût de café et de faibles notes de noix. Post-goût moyen et aux petites notes sèches, légèrement amer de rôti, léger de chocolat noir et de houblon herbeux

Bottle: Poured a dark amber color ale with a large foamy head with OK retention and some light lacing. Aroma consists of piney notes with some grain and cereal notes. Taste is also a mix between some piney notes with some cereal and some unrefined grain. Body is about average with good carbonation. Interesting though not something I see myself buying again.

A beautiful orange copper amber ale with a thin lacing off white head. In aroma, nice citrus marmelade with light sweet candy hearts, cinnamon notes. In mouth, a nice biscuit malt with pihnhey herbal hops, treacle, a bit of alcohol warmth, nutty, pretty nice. On tap at Vices et Versa, Nov. 26 2011.
