Bottle Chris_o Shindig. Too much everything. Too malty, too sweet. The least impressive of the Mikkeller beers that I have had.

22 oz bottle from MrBendo and Beertopia in Omaha. Pour looks like motor oil - all black with a nice dark khaki head and a touch of layering. Aroma is initially roasted espresso then gives way to roasted barley and a nice amount of hops. Taste is big on the coffee, though it is nicely blended into a nice full bodied stout. Good hop bitterness at the end. This was really well made, yet something just didn’t entirely do it for me. Maybe I just don’t like coffee stouts as much as others?

Draught at Plan B, Copenagen, 2007-05-25, 7-3-7-3-13=33
The aroma has too much yeast. The flavor is based on the caramel, with enough bitterness but not enough character; there is even a mild astringency.

Draught at Københavnske Øldage 2007, 2007-05-11, 7-4-7-3-14=35
Beautiful mahogany color. Powerful Belgian style, strong malty flavor, with caramel, candi sugar, powerful mouthfeel. Straightforward but well brewed as usual.

Bottle at Københavnske Øldage 2007, 2007-05-11, 8-5-8-4-16=41
Beautiful red mahogany color. Much more powerful aroma than the keg, where the malt and caramel become fruity. Complex flavor, malty, a lot of caramel, vanilla… Good bitterness, warming alcohol… Excellent

Dark chestnut color; thin creamy head. The fruity-sour aroma of Oud Bruin beers is strong. Powerful flavor too, full malty, a bit vinous, fruity, chemicals… I love so much this!

Hazy brown color; big head. The aroma shows, first, fruity hops, then some dusty caramel and finally apples (strange...). Strong body, and strong caramel flavor, with good residual sweetness, fruity and mellow, a bit resiny. Strong final. Very good but less impressive than on draught.

2009-10-09, draught at Ølbaren, Copenhagen, 9-5-8-5-17=44
Beautiful mahogany color; generous creamy head. It has a wonderful aroma, hoppy and fruity (Amarillo?), citrusy (bergamot). It has medium body strength, with a good caramel flavor, some residual sugars stick on the lips, and the fruity hops again; but the balance between sweetness and bitterness is perfect, and there is nothing to disturb here (like roasted malts or too much resins). Long final, the alcohol is gently warming the tongue. Deeply pleasant.

2007-05-11, draught at Københavnske Øldage 2007, 8-5-8-5-17=43
Hazy copper color. Nice hoppy, resiny aroma. Good malty body, not too thick, but with some sugars; powerful and aromatic hopping, citrusy. Aggressive, very well brewed, excellent.

Hazy golden color. Strong, dry, malty flavor, still some sweetness. The aroma shows some German hops and fruitness, as well as the flavor, with a bold bitterness, well aromatic. Excellent.

Cask Conditioned at Københavnske Øldage 2007
Black oily color, no head. Nice aroma of roasted malt, red wine, coffee, a hint of tobacco. Thick and oily, no carbonation, strong flavor of caramel, roasted malt, coffee, some liquorice, a bit metalic herbal and milky. Very strong ending bitterness, from the coffee and roasted malt. Weird, but an interesting experience. Good.

Beautiful red color with a thick, small, creamy, pink head. Very nice cherry aroma, with some sourness, vinous, cherry kernels. Sour, citrusy flavor, in the front; and persistent cherry flavor too. It’s smoother than the Belgian Lambics; the difference is that it’s much less astringent.

This fine Stout pours a glossy near-black color with a thick and rocky light brown head that has good retention. Nice big patches of lacing on the glass. Big roasty aroma of coffee, oats, and chocolate malt. Rich, smooth body with a character somewhere between an Oatmeal Stout and an Imperial Stout. Flavors of roasted malt, chocolate, coffee and hops are all present. All in all the beer manages the smooth texture and flavor of an Oatmeal Stout while toying with the robust body of an Imperial. The finish is moderately bitter coffee and hops balanced but malt and chocolate. Overall this is an excellent Stout.
