Brown. large head. Aromas of citrus and banana, better aroma than most hefeweizens. Very little wheat in the flavor but lots of sweet malt. I would say it was an abby style if I didn't know better.

The pour revealed a nice light golden colour, very cloudy though since it is unfiltered...Yah? The initial scent was of sugar candy and maybe some maple sugar with a touch of citrus. The head was excellent and thick for most of the beer. In the first taste I could taste the small amount of maple flavour. from what I don't know?! Mild to medium wheat flavour. Very smooth though, even the finish seemed to disappear gradually with no change in taste. Very good, will be having again!

Amber colour with a super-dense tan head-perfect for the style. Very pleasant aroma of caramel, malt, spices and a slight grapeyness. Medium-bodied; Sweet initial flavour covered by a great malt background-once again great for the style! Aftertaste shows grapes, caramel, malt and a few spices. Overall, one of the best Marzens i've ever had! Worth a try! I bought my twelve ounce bottle at the Opera House Gourmet in Manassas, Virginia and sampled it on 27-Novemeber-2003.

Nice blond wheat beer with a nice head. Very good taste of hweat with a subtle sweet touch. I was very impressed with that brew. It is very simple but very pleasant and well done. A real german mastercraft of a beer.

Smells like mild banana and lots of yeast, quite sweet. Appearance, as usual from this brewer, is just over the top. Huge lasting head, tons of lacing, wonderful clouded ruby-brown color. Opens up initially with a great candied like taste. Lots of sugar, some subtle banana and lots of yeast, very peppery texture and lots of clove, almost too much at one point. Very impressive, but as it settles and warms the taste starts leaving! Come back!, but it dosent, begins to start feeling watery, taste gets way too subtle. Flavor is wonderfully balanced but this beer just dosent make it to the end. I did have a 22 oz. Still, thought this would be bigger and badder and better than the regular hefe. Still a good beer, just expecting more.

Sampled at Oktoberfest- light hoppy aroma, pale golden coloured, refreshing and easy to drink in a hot, full tent

At the Esplanada Bier Markt in Toronto, Hacker put on a big Oktoberfest bash. They gave away free mugs, paraded out the roast pig and sauerkraut, and flew in a handful of kegs of the Oktoberfest Lager, which is normally only found at the Oktoberefest in Munich. (Shhh...don't tell the dozens of people over at Beer Advocate who've all rated the Marzen under the Lager listing by mistake!). Golden colour, robust foam. Light aroma - some toasty notes. Crackerlike maltiness, with a little complexity contributed by pale Munich or Vienna malts. No hop aroma or flavour, but a little bit of dryness in the finish. No caramel, unlike the Marzen. Unfortunately, this confirms what I've heard about the Oktoberfest beers at the actual Oktoberfest being bland pale lagers rather than the robust Marzens that are sent overseas. Nice to get to try it, but the Marzen is the better beer.

Pours a light orange-red with some small but nice looking beige-white head. Smells wonderful, I love hallertau. Also can smell some crisp yeast aroma. Starts out mildly malty, an even earthy malt arising from the barley. The middle of the body dries out some and there is some hops flavor here. Little acidity throughout. The body is medium and to my delight, this beer is not watery. Alcohol adds some warm light caramel flavor late and the beer finishes with a clean crisp nutty hops flavor. I will admit the flavor does thin out somewhat towards the finish, but I enjoy the unique flavors created by the dry hops and barley mixed with a warm alcohol/caramel flavor. Again, if it is this good in the bottle in America, this must be incredible in Germany on tap. I can only dream and wait patiently. I wish they didnt make this filtered in the bottle. . .
