Description
The Atlantic Brewing Company began as Acadia Brewing in 1990. At first the brewery was located inside the Lompoc Cafe in downtown Bar Harbor and had a maximum capacity of just one barrel at a time. Within a few years the demand for our beers had grown so much that we moved the brewery two doors down from the restaurant and increased our capacity to seven-barrel batches. However, by 1998, we had outgrown that facility as well and so we moved again – this time to our current location on the Knox Road. Our estate brewery was built on the grounds of a 19th century Maine farmstead, that employs native vegetation and local stonework.

Atlantic Brewing Company has created a site to develop new and exciting small batch beers only seven barrels at a time. This pilot facility allows fellow brewers from around the state, country, and world to collaborate on unique recipes and formulations in a shared environment. These brews, together with Atlantic small batch beer, are offered in a tasting room setting. Flights, large pours, and growlers are available for purchase at the bar.

Enjoyed on tap at Reel Cinema in Bar Harbor, ME while watching the new Star Trek. Appearance dark coffee brown with very thin off white head. Aroma not really of anything, maybe light toffee. Taste is smooth and easy drinking, nice English ale flavor. Overall, enjoyable brew.

Enjoyed on tap at Mainely Meat BBQ (smokehouse attached to the brewery) in Bar Harbor, ME. Appearance is a moderately thick dark cocoa brown with a thin but frothy off white head. Aroma of dark roast coffee, bitter, also with rich dark mocha chocolate and vanilla notes. Smell is fantastic. Taste is even better, rich in bitter dark roast coffee with hazelnut / peanut butter notes, moderate carbonation, also with creamy lactose and vanilla notes. Served very cold which is kinda a bummer, but overall this is an awesome coffee stout.

Pours hazy gold into a shaker. Bright white head with little retention recedes leaving spot lacing. Roasted nuts and sourdough aromas. Soft with astringent earthy bitterness front to back. Not very well balanced, and rather unpleasant.

Pours a crystal clear dark brown with faint garnet highlights at the edges and a smallish tan head that quickly dissipates. Smells of caramel, cocoa, milk chocolate, and hints of roasted coffee. Light earthy hop and an almost creamy sweet aroma comes through. The flavor is like coffee milk. Sweet roasty milk chocolate and caramel with hints of sweet cream. Little to no hop flavor. Medium body with a sweet silky mouthfeel and a light level of carbonation. Decent porter and certainly miles ahead of that "ipa". I enjoyed it and would have it again.

Pours a medium copper color with a smallish white head that quickly dissipates leaving spotty lace on the sides. Smells of rancid popcorn with and earthy sulfury thing going on. Toffee and caramel maltiness. The flavor is bitter sweet and malty with caramel and burnt buttered popcorn making up most of the flavor. Medium body with a moderate level of carbonation. I have a sensitivity to diacetyl and can spot it when others don’t, this beer is has enough that it makes it unpleasant for me to drink.

Sampled from a 22 oz brown bottle this beer poured a very dark brown color with a small foamy tan head that faded and left no lacing. The aroma was ginger powder, faint toasty malts and a touch of vague fruits. The flavor was ginger powder, toasty malts, a tart and chalky presence and just fell off to water. Short watery ginger finish. Thin and watery body. Disappointing.

It poured a nice jet black in color with a nice frothy head. The smell had some cocoa, chocolate, and coffee tones to it with a decent amount of roast to it. The taste is pretty balanced with the noted smells. A good finish somewhat sweet and roasty. The palate was creamy and had a medium body to it. I would have this again.

It poured a deep copper and left a small beige head. It left just a bit of lacing. The aroma had some faint roasted nuts and light caramel malts. The taste took those smells and made it sweet yet more bitter and dry altogether in the taste part of it. The palate was dry in the finish and aftertaste. Overall, a pretty good beer that I would have again in any season.
