Cask at GBBF 2016, Day 1 - London. Pours clear yellow-gold with a creamy, white head. Moderately sweet, with some lemony sugars, white grape, meringue. Light to medium bodied with fine carbonation. Sweet on the finish, with some bready sugars, a little citrus. Not bad.

Draught at the BA Belgian Fest, 9/17/16.
Deep, copper-mahogany body shows a light haziness and a beige head with moderate retention.
I was expecting them to take the anise/licorice route here, not really sure why, but they didn’t. Rather, there’s a healthy dose of malts, with good depth showing sweeter vanilla and honey but also grainy specialty malts. Light gingerbread notes and maybe something like cardamom add dryness/spiciness while there are light plum and black pepper notes from the yeast. No alcohol or flaw.
Sweet initially with a bit of warmth and gaining more balance with both emerging black pepper and strong herbal notes (along the lines of rosemary, sage and or very light ginger). Malty, soft texture with low but engaging carbonation. Earthy, herbal and spice notes linger alongside the strong vanilla and caramel malt flavors. Maybe just a touch too much maltiness here, but I do like that it certainly restrains the adjuncts (not suggesting they’re overdone). Certainly ambitious beer here, which I respect.

Draught at BA Belgian Fest, 9/17/16.
A moderately to lightly hazy, copper-tinted golden beer with a rocky, off-white head that shows moderate retention.
Fruity esters are strong initially but arent of the noxious peach-banana variety. Rather I think the herbs complement them and there is a good mix of lemon, orange, and apple with light anise and/or grains of paradise-like spicy pepper character. Pretty good balance and it’s softened by the rich, but seemingly well-attenuated malts which add honey wheat-like notes. Light plaster and minerality and an overall brightness with no alcohol or flaw.
Lightly spicy/herbal up front, with a lightly spongey/bready maltiness that provides a comforting texture as tight carbonation both concentrates the citrus and strong pepper notes but then releases them on the finish in a crisp finale. Really quite lovely AND traditional saison characteristics all around. Obviously this has herbs and spices so diehard purists may object but given they’ve set out to purposefully make a saison/gruit hybrid, it’s hardly fair to complain. Anyways, the herbs and spices are done quite tastefully.

Cask at GBBF 2016. It pours clear pale gold with a small white head. The aroma is soft, fresh, grassy, green, pine, floral, forest and leaf. The taste is smooth, mellow bitterness, green, grassy, spring onion and straw with a dry finish. Light - medium body and fine carbonation. The aroma is pretty nice, but the taste lets this one down. Fair overall.

9th August 2016
GBBF Day 1. Cask. Light haze on this paleish gold beer, small white head. Light palate, modest fine carbonation. Mild malt sweetness. Sweetish pine and some citric hop underneath. Light finish. It’s a session ale but I still wanted it to be bolder.

Sampled @ GBBF day 1. Hazy pale yellow color, small white head. Aroma is hoppy, very fruity, a bit too fruity I would say. Doesn’t remind me of spruce anyway. Taste has the same thing: very fruity, very sweet pineapple, hops, some malts but no spruce imo. Decent body and carbonation.
