Description
Simon Poffley wants to revive the tradition of farmhouse-brewed beer in the Brecon Beacons. He opened the Left Bank Brewery, located in a farm on the northern edge of Llangorse Lake, in the spring of 2019 and has been brewing since then, using Brecon Beacons water from a borehole. He wants to start fermenting using naturally occurring wild local yeasts and local malt, barley and hops if he can find them.

The first batches were brewed before Spring 2013 at the Hornbeam Cafe, Hoe Street, Walthamstow, London. Later production moved to the Blackhorse Workshop, Blackhorse Lane, Walthamstow where we produced over a hundred brews. After brewing a few batches in Bermondsey production was moved to the Brecon Beacons.

Bottle shared at the chriso and Ruth pre-Christmas / post-Pigs Ear holiday tasting of 2015 - London. Cheers! Pours hazy yellow-gold with a creamy, white head. The nose is a mix of doughy wheat bread and dry smoke, with undertones of honeyed ham. Medium sweet flavor with sugary white bread, yeast, straw and smokey ham. Medium bodied with average carbonation. Sweet finish with more wheat, yeast, dough, light apple. Tasty enough. The smokiness keeps it interesting.

Nose is light smoke, spice, ash, herbal notes, josticks. Taste comprises lightly smoked malt, dark fruit, ashtray, leather, tobacco, biscuit. Medium bodied, moderate carbonation, semi drying close. Intersting brew but not one I could drink a lot of.

Light haze on this rich gold beer, small pale cream colour head. Palate is smooth and semi dry. Decent fine carbonation. Light dry pale malts, trace of lactose. Sweet estrers. Trace of herb. Modest Sorachi lemon. Light semi dry finish. A little clunky but okay.
