Description
Hill Farmstead Brewery is the culmination of many years of travel and insight—of experience and education—of friendships and explorations. The brewery is the revival and continuation of 220 years of Hill heritage and hand crafted history in North Greensboro, Vermont. Its logo is retrieved from a sign that once hung in Aaron Hill's (our great(x3) grandfather) tavern, just up the hill, in the early 1800s.

Sampled from the tap at the brewery. Poured a cloudy pale yellow with a white head that lasted throughout the beer. Aroma was full of floral notes with some light citrus and fruit notes as well as a bit of spice. Flavor had more light citrus present that combined nicely with the floral notes and was supported by spice, light fruit and some sweet grain.

On tap at the brewery. Poured a hazy orange gold with a pink hue and a tan head that lasted throughout the beer and laced nicely. Aroma was full of earthy pine hops and citrus with some backing notes of grass, hay and flora. Flavor started with dank pine that mellowed slightly allowing notes of citrus, grass, bread and flora to come out.

Bottle, 7.5%. Great grassy and piney hop aroma. Black colour, seems unclear. Small stable light brown head. The flavour is nicely roasted, soft but distinct. Lots of coffee notes, dark bitter chocolate. The mouthfeel is good with a nice carbonation, but slightly watery considering the powerful flavour of the beer. On top of the roasted notes, there is a nice layer of hops. Perhaps bitter, but that is hard to tell because of the roasted bitterness. But nice and refreshing, grassy and piney, though not as much as in the nose.

Entered to celebrate my rating number 19,600. Draft. A black beer with a lazing dark brown head. The aroma has strong notes of chocolate combined with medium notes of roasted malt and straw. The flavor is sweet with notes of roasted malt, grain, chocolate, and straw as well as lighter notes of coffee, hops, and flowers, leading to a dry roasted finish. Nice body.

Bottle shared by Kan, thanks! Pours black with minimal head that dissipated completely. Aroma full of dark roasted malts with some toffee, caramel and toast as well as a backing bourbon note. Flavor has strong dark roasted malts with a good amount of toast with a growing bourbon note that became a bit overwhelming and lasted in to an after taste.

On tap. Slightly hazy dark amber with a dense and stable off-white head leaving some lacework. Amazing aroma of exotic fruits and ripe wild berries - this is Sorachi Ace for ya alright! Medium body, lightly sweet overripe fruit and also in the flavour these amazing tropical fruit accents with a touch of coconut. The finish is dry but not overly bitter. An amazing session IPA. Can’t help it, but I’m in love with Sorachi Ace! 081210

Location: Draft at Blind Tiger, 12/18/10

Aroma: The nose is yeasty, some funk/brett, earthy notes, and spice
Appearance: It pours a cloudy golden color, big white head, lots of lace
Flavor: It has a clean grassy and earthy feel, a bit of brett, but not lot, yeast, toast, light fruity sweetness
Palate: This one is clean and smooth on the mouth, low carbonation, good drinkability
Overall Impression: I liked this beer quite a bit, it was a nice crisp clean saison with a touch of funk. Well-made stuff. This is the first thing I've tried from Hill Farmstead Brewery, and I look forward to enjoying more of their brews.
