Description
Since 1975, Boon Brewery has been owned and run by Frank Boon, one of the pioneers of the authentic lambic and gueuze revival. But the first signs of the brewery date back to 1680, as a farm-brewery and distillery in the village of Lembeek. In 1860 Louis Paul bought the brewery to brew only lambic and faro. From 1875, he began bottling gueuze lambic. In 1898, Pierre Troch bought the brewery. But after the economic crisis of 1927, it came into the hands of Joseph De Vits. His son, Rene is renowned for the production of soft and fine gueuze lambic. As Rene De Vits had no children, he sold the brewery to Frank Boon.

Dutch ratebeer meeting. Clear cola coloured, medium head. Muffy, dusty aroma. Malty, bit sweet taste, earthy. Creamy body, though with a bit sharp palate.

Gave this a 4.0 back in 2003 when it was probably my first geuze. It’s a little more boring these days. Aroma of grapefruit, funk, wood, grass and hay. Sweetish but tart fruity flavour with grapefruit and hay

POP!!...The cork nearly shot a hole in my ceiling. You might need a license to carry a bottle of this. The beer pours hazy bronze colored with a rich, dense head. Acidic horse-blanket aroma. Sourish flavor (rhubarb) that turns sweeter (apples) in the finish.

The aroma is nicely sour with notes of sweetness, fruits, and lemon. The color is a hazy orange and it has a fine though disappearing head. The flavor is rather sweet for a Geueze, but it still has the bite it should have. The bite in this one is from the sourness with lemon notes. It ends on a woody dryness. A great Geueze - maybe because it is a little sweeter than the most sour and metallic Geuezes, but still not too sweet; like a Faro or some of the commercial Geuezes.

[Vintage 1998, 5 years old] Sour wild fermented aroma. The color is a clear deep red and it has a bubbly pink fast disappearing head. All the sediment in mine had settled on the cork (must have been stored upside down) - I think that's why it was clear. The flavor is very sour - like a lemon - combined with a weak sweetness and a strong flavor of wild fermentation. It has hints of metal and cherries. It finishes on a dry woody oak note combined with some sourness, that lingers for a long time. A great kriek.

(draught of course - is actually the kriek as used by New Belgium for blending 'Transatlantique') Dark ruby-red, nearly purple, hazy. Virtually no head. Intense (sour) cherries, fruit orchard, not very heavy on the horseblanket. Taste is nearly fruit juice, thick and concentrated-like, but fully naturally flavoured. Quite tart, summersun filled fruit. So thick it gets chewy. Yet the adidity from the fruit and the lambic make it quite refreshing. NBB couldn't have wished for a better blending base.

Pale gold beer, white head, reasonnably stable for a gueuze. Very fresh aromas: lemon, lemonbalm, rhubarb. Sour taste, not too acidic, 'mals' - with a certain bitterness, woody, appearing after some time. Horseblanket, citrussy-lemony flavours. Long tart aftertaste. Medium bodied. Very nice gueuze, not harsh at all.

Deep burgundy red, pink head. Smokey nose, benzene, sweet. The taste is fully artificial, like a kind of bright-red 'cherry'-flavoured gums, popular with children over here. Taste is very sweet. Medium bodied. Sweetness goes on and on. This is a disgrace for Frank.

Bright ruby color, hazy; big, pink head. Great fruity aroma; cherries, wood, vinegar, cherry kernels. Dry, acetic; aggressive, yet almost smooth; correct fruitness. Very good balance of residual sweetness, sourness, astringency, fruitness. Really interesting.

The aroma is sweet and sour with notes of metal, the sourness coming from the wild fermentation and the sweetness from the malt - a very inviting aroma. The color is orange and it has a fantastic head, and is very lively. The flavor is sweet, metallic, bitter, and bitter. It starts out as a sour orange, but then a the flavor of grapefruit takes over and lingers thru to the end. A great Gueueze - but I can recommend sharing a bottle.
