I think I am misinterpreting this can. I get the feeling of Irish cream coffee flavors from the green Irish cream labeled can. I hear the funky plastic thing rattling in the can. From tasting previous beers with the widget, I find no tremendous pleasure. There is a town around here locally called Wexford, I wonder if that town is named after the same town this beer came from. It says this brew dates back to 1810, it has aged well. Popping the lid you get this really odd hissing and chirping sound that slows to a bubbling sputter after about 5-10 seconds. Pouring it slowly into a glass is a site to see. Beautiful slowly rising creamy foam that builds near the bottom and slowly rises after a minute to the top. Color is near clear brown apple cider. Nice creamy head on top. An aroma of alcoholic ale. Cannot detect any carbonation at all in the sipping. Has an almost apply flavor in the background. Taste is like beer that has set out overnight, flat as a board. I do believe however that this is common for the style. The foamy head paints the side of the glass about three inches. I am puzzled by the fact that I can see lots of carbonation (or creamy bubbles) in the brew but they do not carry to the taste buds. Flavor of moderate alcohol. As I predicted, I don’t taste any Irish cream in there. This is somewhat like Boddington’s. This is probably one of the least on the list of Irish ales I’ve tasted. It is not even as good as Carlow OHaras Irish Red and Flying Bison Aviator Red. The finish is quite predictable, stale, smooth (not in a good way) and lingering medium bitterness. Perhaps it actually was brewed in the eighteen hundreds. The flavor of this is not nearly as good as Smithwicks. Should be rated as a bitter in there with Boddington’s bitter, taste is almost the same!

(bottle) Clear, amber to copper colour with a medium-sized off-white foamy head. Light-sweet toast-malty aroma with lemon-fruity accents and shy but still present hops. Light-bitter flavour, light to medium bodied with a moderate carbonation. Toast-malty, fruity taste with light notes of caramel; dry and and quite slim, mild bitter finish with only light notes of aromatic hops. Okay, but also a bit mediocre.

Cask at The Golden Farmer, Bracknell. Nothing special about this one - brown with a white head; malty aroma; thin reasonably balanced taste with a short bitter aftertaste.

Bottle picked up at local Sainsburys. Ruby red in colour as it states, with a tasty slightly nutty and malty flavour. The aroma gives off sweetish notes along with the malt there is some hops detected in both nose and taste.

Bottle: pours a chestnut-red colour with a beige head; rich fruity aroma; medium jammy body with fruit and malt, and just the right amount of bitterness; citrus hops give a clean aftertaste, but it still feels quite sticky in the mouth.

Deep dark reddish brown ale with a thick receeding moka head. A sweet pruney caramel malt with light vinous notes, a bit of licorice and alcohol. In mouth, a warming sweet brew, with sweet molasses, licorice developing later, with a sweet berry note, and nice extendend burned bitterness. A good offering from the Winter 2007 LCBO release.
