This one turned out to be an absolute pleasure to drink. Complex, yet very sessionable. Tasted from the bottle, it poured a deep cola brown, with ruby hints. A short tight beige head lasted until the end, and laced well down the glass. A complex malt and hop aroma wafted generously, producing smoky roasted grain and coffee, plums and some vinous aromas, with a hint of chocolate and tart hops. In the mouth, an initial lovely, creamy mouth feel, and low carbonation, gave way to a lightly sweet front, sherry and dry red wine notes, dry roasted coffee grains and a long, warming roasted malt swallow. Good union of flavours, well balanced and smooth as silk. Managed to restore my faith in Greene King, so I think I’ll have another. Lovely!!!

660 ml bottle, bought in Norway. Tawny colour, moderate head, moderate "standard bitter" aroma. Flavourwise it’s much like the cask version: Smooth and drinkable, not offensive in any way, but not very exciting either.

A light amber beer with a small head. The aroma is sweet hoppy. The flavor is sweet and very hoppy. A very easily drinkable ale - no wonder Green King markets this beer as they do. It is an OK refreshing ale - but nothing special.

Aroma of wine and fruit. Dark brown with red color. Head was small but lasted until the end and left a lace on the glass. Became sweeter as it wamred with flavors of malt. Also some wood. Full body. Excellent.

Some malt in the aroma. The appearance is the best thing about this beer. It is a dark, cloudy orange with a thick white head. Tastes light and watered down. Thin. Nothing off, but nothing there to like.

Dark brown colour with a thin light brown head. Very nice aroma, strong malt, alcohol and pit fruit aromas are all present.! Medium to Full-bodied; Strong carbonation, potent maltiness with a very powerful smokey flavour. The flavour extends to some sweetness, but mainly the smokeyness and malt are tated. Aftertaste bittered from all the malt ! Overall, a nice beer...one i'll have again! I got this in a trade with CaptainCougar and sampled from a 33 cL bottle. Thanks again Tom! I sampled this on 19-September-2003.

Hazy golden color. Light hop, fruity aroma. Fresh, but light taste, with enough fruitness. Ordinary palate.

Sampled at From The Vine monthly beer tasting Aug 4th, 2003: Pours a dark amber-brown with a medium beige head and thin lacing. Aroma of smoke, caramel and malt. Smooth drinking with a nice caramel/maple and malt character. There is also a nice spiced aspect to the flavor that offsets the sweetness. The finish is semi-sweet fruit and malt. Good stuff.

Cask: You'll notice comments from Americans asking where the hops are - This beer is a Brittish Bitter, not an American IPA. Don't expect hops. It seems to be very hit or miss on the quality, but if you're looking for a light tasting ale with little alcohol, this could be your beer.
