Description
Welcome to the page of Brouwerij-Stokerij Pirlot. actively brewing and distilling quality beverages since 1998.

Small white head over big-bubbled metallic-orange beer. Bit creamy nose, even a point of vanillacream, like diary... white candi sugar? Sulphur, putteke, citrus. As to hops??? Bitterish, somewhat hoppy, but also lots of citrus; honey, sweet malts, and a tad oxydized. Strange, as the BBD gives it another 8 months. I’m guessing some coriander amongst the citrus. Quite slick, undercarbonated, medium bodied at least. Sulphur/decay returns in the aftertaste. Well... this is a very minor Wotan, for sure. Seriously, big bubbles, sulphur, oxydation, decay... there’s something wrong here.

Small whitish head over (cold)hazed orange beer. Rather neutral, even bit dusty nose, faraway herbal aroma that might well be juniper. Gradually more aromas waft up, including one of sweet oranges. Dry-spicy flavour, with an unpleasant, if mercifully light off-flavour that has some unwelcome association with dried dog dung. Then indeed a flavour as from juniper branches, not unlike one of the few Sathi’s I’ve once tasted. Though it is hardly medium bodied and low in ABV, I get a fleeting alcoholheat. Seems undercarbonated. Not my thing.

Small rim, despite visible acitve carbonation, in faintly veiled copperish-golden beer. Fruity/vegetable aromas, cooked celeri (DMS), coriander, some alcohol and generally smelling very young! Slightly toasted and lots of coriander. A flavour somewhere reminiscent of celeriac. Spritzy, light to medium bodied, bit slick. Coriandertisane. Heikanters, astemblief!!!

Small beige head, fast gone over cola-coloured beer. Oats, sweet dark bread; dark malt(bomb). Smells for all the world like a Dunkler Bock. Bitterish, roasted/burnt, but held in check around sweeter malts. Well-bodied, full MF, slick and velvety texture. Top-fermenting, but has definitely some Bock-like features.

Bottle: Poured a light yellow color ale with a medium size foamy head with average retention. Aroma consists of light peppery yeast with some rustic malt. Taste is a bit off which makes me wonder if the bottle was still good with light rustic and funky notes, dust and some light peppery yeast notes. Body is about average with good carbonation and no apparent alcohol. Overall, this is below standard for the style.

Zythos Bierfestival 2012, Leuven, Belgium. It pours mahogany with deep ruby red edges and supporting a tan head of foam. The aroma offers up funk and some metal rolling into yeasty sourness and vinegar. The taste is funky and gravel road followed by funky yeast and slivers of cherry skins and almost a metallic like earthiness. The faint metal I seem to be getting does not detract from the experience.

Zythos Bierfestival 2012, Leuven, Belgium. It pours clear gold with nice yet small white head. The modest aroma offers up spicy – herbally notes that lean a bit woody and then goes into faint apple notes. The taste delivers a nice fresh grainy maltiness that rolls into spicy hops, some floral hops and sort of a mango like tropical fruitiness.

Zythos Bierfestival 2012, Leuven, Belgium. It pours rutty red mahogany with lasting tan head. The aroma offers up malts, a bit of roasted malts, a touch of coffee and some light smoky earthiness. The taste comes across with some roasted malts and coffee and then a nice subtle smokiness. This beer creates an interesting mix where it is all basically smooth and blended adding to the harmony of the flavor. Nice brew with plenty of interest and depth.
