Description
Elgood & Sons is a family-owned brewing company situated in the heart of ‘Fen’ country in Cambridgeshire, England. Home to Elgood’s is the North Brink Brewery which was established in 1795, and was one of the first classic Georgian Breweries to be built outside London.

In 1878 it came under the control of the Elgood family, and so it remains today, with the fifth generation of the Elgood family now coming through to run the business, maintain the traditions, and push the company boldly forward into the 21st Century.

Good hops, mild citric acidity to it. Nothing fancy, or mind blowing, just a solid good sessionable english bitter.

The chestnut brown head quickly falls. The nose is nutty, caramel, dried fruit, sponge cake, dates, figs. The taste includes toffee, fruit cake, dates, roasted brown sugar, nutty notes, raisins. Medium-bodied with a kick, slight saturation, rich, relaxing alcohol gives a liqueur note and a bit of warming in the throat. Solid, aromatic, smooth. Great!

Pours clear dark amber with thin beige foam. Aromas of toffee, hazelnuts, dried red fruit, raisins. The taste is a bit of spice, melanoid, biscuit notes, then raisins, the whole permeated with liqueur sweetness. Clean finish, light earthy and herbal notes and a bit of warming in the throat. Pleasant.

Bottle from a trade with Grumbo, thanks! Aroma is roasted malt, strong liquorice, a little smokiness, burnt caramel, with a touch of dark cocoa and coffee. Flavour is medium sweet and moderate bitter. Body is medium. Bit too heavy on the liquorice and burnt notes for my taste.

330ml bottle from Beers of Europe. Poured into my Gordons thistle shaped glass at home on Sunday 26th January 2025, Live tasting of the only beer I am having today. Fast fading beige head on a clean and clear chestnut red body. Soft malty nose and initial taste, boozy feel and semi sweet throughout. Hedgerow fruits and raisins/plums arrive mid sip. Weather outside is awful and this has brightened up my evening somewhat.

Spotty beige head on a reddish brown coloured body.
Toffee, berry & malt aroma.
Medium bodied, soft on the tongue thinning out to a cloying back.
Berries, bready, pear, clove, woody & malt tastes with a tangy finish.
It's one of them that would be way better from Cask.

Bottle from Beers of Europe. Pours a dark brown with moderate sized beige head, nice lacing. Aroma of chocolate, liquorice, boozed up fruit cake. Taste of fruit cake soaked in alcohol, chocolate, herbs. It goes slightly beyond a treat into something touching chemical although not so much as to be awful. Medium to full bodied. Its ok but not great for a 6.6% stout.

Bottle from Beers of Europe. Clear copper brown with thin off-white top. Aroma of ethanol, toffee, brown sugar, liquorice, light fruit cake. Taste is very malty, brown sugar, toffee, almond and a slight floral hop. Medium to full bodied and very much a sipper. Its ok, a bit on the rough side.

Bottle from Beers of Europe. Clear red-brown with thin off white top. Boozy sweet fruit cake, dark chocolate, caramel on the nose. Taste of sweet mixed fruit, dark malts, chocolate, medicine. Rich and tangy. Medium to full bodied, moderate carbonation, not too boozy in the finish. Lacks a bit of finesse but its bloomin' tasty.
