Not the blackest black IPA ever! Deep dark brown with a ruby tinge and a frothy tan head. Some dark fruit and hops on the nose, smooth and a little bit silky, roasted malt with dark fruit notes and a little bit of citrus bitterness

500 ml bottle, from Left Field Beer, England. ABV is 4.9%. Mahogany colour, large beige head. Pleasant aroma of roast malts, chocolate and plums. The flavour has the same elements, smooth and easy drinking. An unexpected medicinal bitterness in the aftertaste.

Cask at Sun, Stafford. Pours golden amber with a small foamy off-white head and good lacing. There is a muted aroma of just hints of malts and floral hops. In the mouth it is sweet with a creamy texture but with some underlying bitterness that gradually increases. Flavour is initially floral hops and marmalade being augmented by mango and some nutty hints after a while. Finish is quite bitter and slightly dry. This is reasonable – but not really my cup of tea.

Cask at Sun, Stafford. Pours golden amber with a small scummy off-white head but excellent lacing. Malts to the fore in the aroma together with traces of floral hops and honey. In the mouth it is slightly bitter with a smooth and creamy texture. Flavour has mixed hops, corn and honey with hints of alcoholic strength and lucozade coming though later leading to a dry finish. This is decent – an old school premium bitter.
