Brasserie Artisanale et Didactique du Flo

Microbrewery in Hannut, Liège, Belgium 🇧🇪

Established in 2002

Description
The name Brasserie du Flo originates from the locality located just in front of the town hall. At this place was a body of water, the size of which varied according to the seasons and which was called 'Le Flo'. The Confrérie de St. Antoine (Brotherhood of St. Antoine) has had its own beer brewed since 1978 (Cuvée St. Antoine Brune). The beer was brewed for years at Brasserie du Bocq in Purnode and then at the Van Steenberge brewery in Ertvelde. In December 2002 a private microbrewery was established in the former town hall of Blehen.

After being at a standstill following the explosion of a tank in 2017, a new project (still under the wings of the Confrérie de St. Antoine) is being set up where the quality and the didactic aspect are put forward. A young team of enthusiasts will invest in modern equipment to relaunch the brewery.

Bottled. Amber colour with a mediumsized slightly off-white foamy head, which leaves some lace. Aroma is sweet malts, mild toasted and some floral and spicy yeasty tones to it. Flavour is fruity, floral, some toasted and caramel tones with some yeast and mild alcohol sweetness too.

LCRBM2: my tastebuds were tiring fast, and I had some trouble tasting this beer. For what it is worth: Cinnamon in the aroma. Sweetish, malty flavor with cinnamon. Cherry esters. Caramel. Friendy beer, but with a lack of bite.

Bottle. malt, yoghurt and mango in the aroma. Malty flavor with caramel, a hint of licorice and yoghurt. An upcoming milky sourness. Sweet. Far away from perfection, but nevertheless perfectly drinkable.

Purs rather clear amberblonde. Small white head fades instantly to a very small layer of bubbles. Smell is funky, not fresh at all, but nothing like an aged beer. No clear fruityness. Perhaps older fruits? Doesn’t smell rotten or anything either, too. bit bitter, some yeast. Some spices. Taste is sharp , Sour/bitter, rather dry, has a very mild sweetness. i detect some apples, perhaps even a slight hint of cherry thats rather hidden. Some citrus ( lemon ? ) Very dry. agressive carbo. Interesting. I don’t like this beer all to much, but all the aspects are OK. Its just one giant mess to me, unfortunately. it’s an everything / nothing beer. No clear direction. can’t say I hate it, either. Wouldn’t say it’s a must-try, but I can say its for sure more interesting to try than a sweet -fruitsyrup beer. Anyway, at this price setting ( 4.25 € in a shop for a small bottle ) this is rediculous. Perhaps for under a € i might concider to retry someday but this amount of money can buy me way better

Gusher. Pours unclear, very yeasty lookin’ amber. HUGE white head, nearly NO beer in the glass, only foam. Smell is bit bitter, very yeasty. Taste is bitter, grainy, tastes a lot like vintage Alvinne, like they used the same kind of yeast ( I know they didn’t, but the taste is just so similar) . Mild brett, even. No sourness, no clear infected taste, but def some brett in it. not bad, in taste, yet I assume this wasn’t ment to be like this - by far. No best by date on the label, nor the cap. Perhaps it was on the backlabel, and it fell off ?

In mouth, a nice sweet fruity malt with Orval quality, light grainy character, light Brett, very nice and complex. Bottle at Cajun Café spring beer fest 2016.
