Bottled. Reddish brown beer with huge floaties and a lasting beige head. Aroma is complex and mild, with cigar, alcohol, spices, plum, tea and prunes. It is a delicacy just to sit back and sniff the aromas. The flavor is equally complex, but unfortunately a bit short, with candi-sugar, tea, alcohol, bitterness and a slight roastiness. Sweet, full and slightely fizzy mouthfeel. The finish is light hoppy. It is a fresh beer that gives me more spring/easter feelings than christmas feelings, but that is maybe a result of the Norwegian beer habits. It’s wonderful anyhow. (060320)

Bottle 330ml. Orange/red color with nice, rich beige head. A bit reduced rating points on appearance due to a big amount of rather big floaters, otherwise a lovely pleasant body. A fruity, spicy aroma with prunes and a clear hint of alcohol. The taste is also alcoholic with lots of candy sugar, complex and surprisingly still quite fresh. A bit short on aftertaste, still rather sweet.

Bottle: Poured a muddy dark brown color ale with a huge off-white bubbly head with better then average retention. Aroma of big sweet malt with a distinctive yeast presence. Taste is semi-sweet caramel malt with some faint presence of prunes with a slightly funky yeast presence toward the end. Body is quite full and alcohol is very well hidden. I still feel that it lack a little something to make it truly spectacular but very good beer nonetheless.

Bottle (courtesy of Xproudfoot) : Poured a deep brown color ale with a huge foamy off-white head with perfect retention. Aroma of dry raisins, caramel malt and a touch of spice. Taste is also dominated by raisin-like sweetness with a very distinctive yeast signature. Body is full, alcohol well hidden and carbonation is almost off-the-wall. Nice strong Belgian ale the way I like them.

Belgian Burgundy Ale. I can recognize the quality of this beer but it is not my thing. There is a huge malt nose with light fruit, and more malt in the sweet flavor. But there is another odd, sweet flavor to this beer. I don’t think it was from having an older bottle because it is a flavor I recognize from their other beers but didn’t work out so well in this one. The yeast strain, maybe? But this is a very well made beer. It looks great; dark red and lots of sediment as well as a thick and long lasting head. Very heavy palate. I do have a newer bottle and will give it another try. -------------Nov. 2006 labeled as Brune this time. This beer was as gusher and I lost some it it when opened. Few beers have as much sediment as this. Still underwhelmed with the simple flavor and aroma and lack of complexity in either. It doesn’t have enough going on to be scoring so highly. Sweet malt, some light fruit, and that is about it.

Hazy dark cherry color with a large frothy off-white head. Aroma of citrus with hints of sourness, a good helping of sweet malts along with some spice. Flavor of fruit with hints of raisins. Lots of spice, and sweet malt. Very gentle for 10%.

Murky copper pour with short, off-white head. The aroma is sticky sweet with a slight barley wine smell — leathery and earthy. The flavor is fruity highlighting raisins and plums. Nicely sweet. Medium body. Moderate carbonation. Creamy mouthfeel yet it avoids being cloying. Outstanding balance and a real delight to drink. Rerate: Not as complex as I experienced the first time around. The fruitiness was more muted, a bitterness more forward. Still very good, but not as good as I originally rated it.

Pour is a hazy brown with a large white head. Aroma is spice and roasted nuts. Flavor is citrus with a large dose of of fruit sugar. Unlike the Grand Cru the alcohol in this brew kicks you in the pants. Is it tasty..yes. Is it the best tripel out there....no by a long shot. I would call this a average brew.

Pour is a cloudy brown with a huge fluffly white head. Aroma is deffinatly brown sugar with notes of molasses. Flavor is prune and pear fruits with lots of candy sugar. Deffinatly tasty and the high alcohol in not a problem. Tasty and very warming.

Really great Belgium Bruin. Brown with a bid of a red Hew. I´ve tasted a 2002 edition this Christmas(2005) and it had developed its sweetness perfectly. Strong,sweet and fruity at the same time. This one is different from a lot of the other Belgium "bruins". The smell and finish is its own style. Very original.
