Description
Pictish Brewing Company is a small independent brewery established in April 2000 by Richard Sutton. Early in 2013 Richard decided to opt for an easier life and skive off leaving things in the hands of his old friend Paul Wesley. We brew a wide variety of high quality cask conditioned ales and deliver direct to the licensed trade in the Lancashire, Manchester and West Yorkshire areas.

Cask at The Kelham Island Tavern, Sheffield, ’The Peoples Republic of South Yorkshire’ on the Valley of Beer Day 16-08-08 Pours gold with a white head. Tasty beer that leaks tropical fruit flavours, sily smooth bitterness which is held in check by the honey sweetness, nice creaminess, lovely flavourful beer. Aren’t Pictish great, my third Pictish on the bounce, admittedly this one was my dad’s but I had quite a bit of it.

Cask at The Kelham Island Tavern, Sheffield, ’The Peoples Republic of South Yorkshire’ on the Valley of Beer Day 16-08-08 Crikey o’ riley another pub, another Pictish and another new one at that. This Pictish poured somewhere between warm gold and light amber (as I recall, quite dark where sat) with a nice white head. Another Pictish in great nick, lovely hoppiness that just curls around the mouth combining biiterness and sweetness to excellent effect, nice soft sweet honey trickles through, even though this isn’t complex there is still quite a kaleidoscope of bittersweet flavours going on here.

Cask at The Wellington, aka ’The Cask and Cutler’ Sheffield, ’The Peoples Republic of South Yorkshire’ on the Valley of Beer Day 16-08-08 I overheard the barman saying that this was due to go on so waited an extra few minutes to get a taste of my first Pictish of the day. This looked in great nick and as Mes would say poured with the ’usual Pictish snowstorm’ Light gold in colour with a white bubbly head. Bitterness was a little stinging and pithy but less depth of flavour than I expected, a very good beer that just for once met its match and was outpunched by the (in this pub at least) by the excellent Millstone Baby Git, still a 3.7 is a damn decent score.

Cask at the GBBF 2008. Golden colour, low head. Lovely aroma of tropical fruits, notes of flowers and honey too. Nice hoppy flavour, moderate malts and fruit, then an assertive bitterness takes over.

Cask, gravity dispense at Merton Summer Beer Festival July 18th and 19th 2008 Pours pale golden with a nice white head, looks pretty decent. Soft fruitiness leaning towards citrus but a bit restrained. Not as hoppy in the mouth or as recognisably Pictish as some of their others, I never had that first taste and then pull the glass back whilst exclaiming "Now that is bloody good" moment that I normally do with Pictish that said it was, good, refreshing and tasty but most unlike Pictish it was part of the pack this time rather than a leader.
