Draught at Cafe ’t Arendsnest, Amsterdam on 20th March 2009. Handsomely black with pale brown/offwhite creamy head. Subtle smoke augmenting a rich roasted taste with spicy notes. Fully deserving of a mark above 4. Re-rated 17th March 2012. Tap at Cafe ’t Arendsnest. Malty/roasty berries aroma, oats/roasted malts in mouth and a bitter end. Engaging grainy texture.

As Dubbel Bok or Weizen Starkbok: On tap at ’t Arendsnest. Opaque dark brown to black colour, light beige head. Aroma of hard roasted malts, dark fruits, molasses. Flavour is light sweet, lots of hard roasted malts, bitter chocolate, some dark fruits, burnt sugar, roasted bitter finish. Medium bodied. bottle, mit Dank an MoritzF! Deep brown colour, mid-sized head. Malty-fruity nose. Full-bodied, malty with hints of caramel, fudge and nuts and a touch of shy fruitiness. Well-balanced, a nice strong winter ale.

Tap (PINT BBF 09): Deep amber, almost black coloured, small lacy beige foam; sweet toaste malt and restrained molasses in the nose; solid sweet-bitter flavour, medium to full bodied; sweet caramelly finish. Could be a bit hoppier........

Bottle: Poured a yellow sediment filled jello with a white head. Spicy aroma. Taste is so horriable I damn near yacked in my mouth. I guess spice and infection don’t mix.

Bottle. Pours a dark brown almost black color with a small off-white head. Has a roasted malty chocolate aroma. Sweetish roasted malty caramel and chocolate flavor. Has a roasted malty caramel finish.

On tap at Café Hesp, Amsterdam. Hazy golden coloured, medium sized white head that went away fast, cheesy nose with hint of fruit. Sweet malty, fruity and touch of coriander but overall quite stale. Probably the keg was open too long. Yes, the glass is very nice, quite similar to glass for Bernard Světlý Ležák 12° Unfiltered.

On tap at Gollem de Pijp, Amsterdam. Muddy brown coloured, medium sized pale brown head, caramel candy nose. Malty, caramellish and moderate spicy with metallic and nutty notes. Hint of tiramisu in the finish. Unbalanced but drinkable.

Clear golden with tiny floaties. Sweet aroma with fruity and malty notes. Flavour was sweet with toasted malt, caramel and plums. Had some hops as well. Finished sweet.
