Bottle at Beer Dock, Crewe Pours a dark reddish brown with very little head and not much lacing. Dried fruit in the nose, which expands in the mouth to encompass dates, raisins and figs. Also traces of caramel and chocolate and a feeling of viscosity. Sweetness starts to come through at the finish, but the fruitiness lingers as well. Also a warm glow in the stomach area ! Wonderfully complex – compares well against the Belgian Trappist beers.

Bottle shared by Daniel at Craft CG, then a couple of bottles since. It pours slightly hazy deep brown with a medium beige head. The aroma is rich, sweet, slightlg oily, plenty of dark fruits, rich fruit cake, toffee, spice, chewiness and wood. The taste is slick, sweet, sticky, oily, bitter - sweet, wood, earth, spice, fruit loaf, vinous, character, burnt toast, must, liquorice and dull vanilla. Fulsome body and fine carbonation. Good depth of flavour and rather moreish. Originally a 3.6, but have upped to 3.8 after revisiting.

330ml bottle at Peterborough Beer Festival 2018. Pours clear dark brown with a red hue and a beige head. Aroma: bread, caramel, dried fruits, nutty. Taste: light to moderate sweet & light bitter, bready malts, caramel, fruit cake, chocloate, figs, dark fruits, a little pepper spice. Medium bodied, ample carb, dry light spicy finish. It's nice to see an English twist to the style.
