Description
Artisanally brewed in Amsterdam since 2011.
Combining influences from the rich European beer culture with a non-conformist attitude.
From a family heritage of Swedish farm brewers and trained by the masters of ale and porter in England, we ended up in the Netherlands to create our own microcosm in the world of beer.
Inspired by the lesser known sides of European brewing culture and devoted to uncommon artisanal techniques, Butcher's Tears makes distinctive beers that progress beyond fashion and convention.

Bottle shared. Clear deep amber with creamy beige head. Caramel, oak smoke indeed, bread crust, toffee, light dried fruits, weedy hops. Medium sweet and a bit less bitter. Medium bodied, a bit slick. Well balanced, good stuff.

Bottle from Gedeelde Vreugde. Hazy black, small, beige head. Aroma of chestnut, rye bread, mocha, milk chocolate, shoe polish, burnt caramel. Taste has sweetish apple & fig in a nutty, milk-chocolatey, brown-bready malt body with a bitter mocha note. Earthy hoppy finish offering bitter rye, nuts, wood, something medicinal. Medium body, oily texture, soft carbonation. Unusual Stout combined with Brown Ale characteristics, which works well.

Bottle. Color: Hazy orange amber, thin white head. Aroma: Yeasty, herbal/spicy, subtle juniper. Taste: Malty, bread notes, grainy, yeasty, grassy, fruity hints of stone fruit, floral and spicy juniper. A lot of flavors to explore in this beer. Medium body, just below average carbonation. Moderate sweet and light.to moderate bitterness. Another nice Butchers Tears beer, nice to have this brewery brewing unusual tradition-inspired beers over here in The Netherlands. Keep up the good work, Butchers!

Bottle. New batch, bottled 9-9-2021, 6%. Color: Slightly hazy golden, thin white head. Aroma: Floral hop, citrus hints. Taste: Caramel malt, floral hop. Hints of orange, orange peel. Yeasty hints. Moderate sweet and bitter. Bitterness going to over moderate at dry-ish finish. Medium body, just below average carbonation. Nice long lasting hoppy finish. Another typical Butcher's Tears 'traditional' English style beer. Very nice.

Bottle picked up from Foeders online Haarlem, Netherlands. Had this at home Wednesday 19th April 2023 in the company of Jude, listening to Scott Lavene (various tracks) cooking Lemon and Basil Risotto. Pours gold with a slight murky haze, there is a small off white head. Quite dry from the off, a little spicy yeastyness makes its presence known. Smooth, nice soft carbonation. Easy drinking for the abv, the smokiness is that subtle I had completely forgotten about it.

Pours a pitch black colour and a creamy light brown head with fairly good retention. Aroma's of roasted malts, mocha, some bourbon, red fruit. Retronasal: mocha, dark chocolate, a bit sourish, woody. Flavour is moderate sweet with a light sour touch and lots of dark chocolate and some roasted bitterness. Body is slightly thin, but the mouthfeel is smooth. In the finish some of the usual moss comes out, then roast and ash, light moderate bitter.
