Description
Artisanally brewed in Amsterdam since 2011.

Combining influences from the rich European beer culture with a non-conformist attitude.

From a family heritage of Swedish farm brewers and trained by the masters of ale and porter in England, we ended up in the Netherlands to create our own microcosm in the world of beer.

Inspired by the lesser known sides of European brewing culture and devoted to uncommon artisanal techniques, Butcher's Tears makes distinctive beers that progress beyond fashion and convention.

Pours an almost clear ruby-brown colour and a dense off-white head with a small layer retention and some lacing. Aroma's: smoky, light sweet/malty. Retronasal it's smoky, sourish, a bit stale and mossy. Flavour is light bitter with hints of sweet and sour. Light bodied. Fairly bitter finish.

Pours a dark, unclear amberbrown. Small white head. Scent is smoked cheese / Smokes sausage. Medium intense. Not very complex. Taste is sharp, intenser on the smoke here. Mildly sweet backbone, bit sticky body as well. Some caramel, yet remains light and vibrant. Works as a balanced beer, to my surprise, yet... Strong mild ale ???

Certaibly tart and acidic. Abit clashing with the style. Nor round and malty enough to fall into a category with an oud bruin. Bierkonig Amsterdam

Big fan. The world needs more smoked saisons. Pleasantly smokey while retaining that classic saison dryness. Gotta love that head.

5/X/22 - on tap @ DOK Brewing Company (Gent), BB: n/a (2022-1351)

Clear orange blond beer, small creamy off-white head, pretty stable, adhesive, leaving a nice lacing in the glass. Aroma: very malty, a bit fruity, floral, yeasty, some banana, nice, but no smoke? Is this supposed to be a smoked ale? MF: lively carbon, medium body. Taste: very yeasty, lots and lots of banana, bitter, herbal, floral touch. Aftertaste: more yeast, pretty sweet, banana, bitter and soapy finish.
