Poured from a bottle. Aroma is rather fruity with a lot of raisin, fig, plum and prune. Some light banana and bubblegum. Light rum and oak notes. Moderate caramel and toasted bread notes with lighter toffee. More rum as it warms. Pours a fairly clear, amber brown with some copper notes. Moderately large, light tan head with decent retention as it recedes to the edges. Flavor is moderately sweet, but less so than the aroma would lead me to believe it would be. Moderate toasted bread with lighter caramel and toffee. Light nuttiness. Low fruit esters, light raisin and plum. Low rum and oak notes. Medium light bitterness. Mouthfeel is medium bodied with medium carbonation. Low astringency and low alcohol warmth. Overall, a better beer than expected with a good balance of all it’s different characteristics. Nothing dominates and the rum barrel has a really light presence.

Bottle. Pours yellow white head. Nose/taste of rye, sour lemon, white wine, oak and lemongrass - medium body.

Bottle at JTC10k tasting. Brown pour. Nose is mostly all rum. Tastes of sweet rum, some malt, oranges, raisins, oak, and caramel. Sweet finish. Rum dominates a bit much.

Bottle shared at 10K tasting. nose is yeast spice and light fruit. tastes herbal, of yeast, spicing, light banana, hay, and rubbing alcohol. pleasant enough

750 ml bottle poured into a Spiegelau tulip. Bottled 2/24/2015. Hazy golden yellow with almost three fingers of off-white head. Aromas of citrus fruit and zest, floral notes, light tropical fruit and hop oils. Tastes of citrus, floral notes, light pine and grass, light bitterness. Medium body with a dry finish. Nice citrus-forward IPA.

Bottle at 10K. Pours amber tan head. Nose/taste of rum, oak, caramel and dark fruit. Medium body.

Bottle. Pours hazy yellow, medium white head, dissipates fairly quickly, some lacing. Aroma is hay, grassy, pepper, a touch of lemon. Flavor follows, dry and quite light bitter, lots of cut field and black pepper, with a backing of lemon. Lightish body. Solid saison.

Pours a rather hazy orange-gold with a very strong, large, well-retained, white head.
Beautiful nose has both elements of tropical fruits as well as some more standard orange/grapefruit/pine. Not quite the lush, juicy strength of Upper Case and there’s more resin displayed here, which I’m never much a fan of, but the alcohol is under control and the malt adds only moderately sweet honey to help balance.
The flavor is a mixed bag for me. On one hand, the same luscious tropical fruits are here and provide enjoyable flavors of pineapple, mango and such, but there’s a bit of blandness from the hops still in suspension and to go with that, a bit too much pine-like acidity. The brighter, lighter notes are inevitably consumed by the grapefruit/resin bitterness and resulting acidity. That being said, it’s not outrageously acidic and to be quite honest, as it warmed up, the malt actually became a bit too sweet. Too cake-like and sugary, though I wouldnt go as far as to call it syrupy. Obviously, then, the resulting texture is very soft and coupled with the natural carbonation, makes that part of the experience enjoyable.
Kind of an "Old-style American DIPA", as in, more bitter/C-hop forward and with plenty of maltiness. Still enjoyable but there’s just a better breed of IPA/DIPA being brewed these days (including many of Trillium’s other beers).
