Description
Gigantic Brewing Company is an independent, crafty brewery located in the Southeast quadrant of the Peoples Republic of Portland. Brewer/Owners Ben Love and Van Havig are veterans of the Oregon brewing community.

At Gigantic we only do two things: make the best damn IPA in Portland, Oregon and produce seasonal, exciting, flavorful beers, most of which will be brewed only once. Our goal is simultaneously to create new interpretations of classic styles and to ignore those same style guidelines completely and brew whatever our creative natures produce.

Bomber. Pours black with red highlights when held up to the light. Has a medium beige head with decent retention; leaves a skiff of foam and some lace. Aroma is bready, chocolate milk, licorice, burnt caramel. Taste is bittersweet. Has a faint hoppy flavor to go along with the roastiness of the malt. Mouthfeel is creamy, body and carbonation medium. Well-made and tasty.

Deep dark brown coloured body with a thick, two centimetre tall tan head. Aroma of roasted malt, alcohol, yeast, light spices and a hint of caramelised sugars. Medium-bodied; Assertive roasted malt flavour with chocolate, coffee, meat, soy sauce and a lot of nuts/earth in the mix. Aftertaste is quite pungent with the malt and earthiness really coming out, some metal, a hint of sugar and a deep roasted nuttiness. Overall, a strong beer more like a brown or perhaps a light porter and not anything like a saison at all - no herbs, no grassiness, just a hint of yeast. Not my favourite and not true to any of the styles, but it was drinkable of course. I sampled this 65 cL bottle purchased from Bottleworks in Seattle, Washington on 11-January-2013 for US$8.99 sampled at home in [the real] Washington on 08-April-2013 a few days before heading back to the PNW.

Enjoyed at the Three Penny Taproom in Montpelier, VT. Pours a brown colour with a beige head and red highlights. Chocolate nose with vanilla hints and well-blended roasted malts. Nice creamy starting mouthfeel. Porter dark fruits taste with some roasted malts. Mild dry finish with the hops. A nice treat, a little hoppier than most porter.

On tap at the brewery. Pours a deep black/brown hue with a medium white head. A big fruity nose with roast and chocolates. A really nice clean and big flavor: light roast, char, chocolates (dark), dark fruit, light dry yeast. Very smooth and tasty.

On tap at the brewery. Pours a bright copper color with a medium white head. A fruity and grainy nose. The flavor comes across with rice, light fruit, light sourness, dry. Very interesting. Not getting a massive plum, but good.

Typical American fruity citrus hop nose. Some grass too. Soft citrus flavors, golden malts, mild bitterness. Low carbonation. Decent.

Bomber from Malt & Vine. Pours nearly opaque dark brown with a foamy/frithy(!) tan head. Aroma has a lot of chocolate, but there’s some fruity ester as well. Near full bodied. Flavor has lots of chocolate, lots of dark fruit, and some earthy "Belgian" aspects. Finishes a bit earthy/dirty chocolate, with dark malt and enough hop (I think it’s hop) to make it towards the dry side. This is a tasty, good, interesting and very nearly unique beer. Good on them brewers.
