Bottle courtesy of Black95tt: Poured an hazy dark amber color ale with a medium foamy head with good retention. Aroma of candi sugar, sweet malt and alcohol is pretty intense and reminiscent of Gouden Carolus Keizer. Taste is quite hot at first, which does not really suit my taste. The presence of candi sugar is quite evident as well as some dry figs characteristics. Yeast is totally overshadowed by the malt and the alcohol. Body is just above average but could be fuller and carbonation was appropriate. Overall, I really don’t see the big fuss over this beer and would prefer to taste a Gouden Carolus Keizer, which is similar, but more balance overall.

Rating #900 Bottle labeled 89/234 Pours a very dark reddish brown with a small off white head.Spotty lacing. Aroma was very nice deep sweet woody and of licorice, dark pitted fruit and the bourbon barrel that it aged nicely in. Flavors were not as impressive but had the similar elements. Malty and sweet, with not much hop bitterness. The ABV at 9.5 was, I thought not very obvious and compliments the overall flavor nicely. Soft carbonation and a medium and soft body. Thanks Buck Dich for sharing this special item.

Bottle courtesy of Black95tt: Poured a clear burgundy color ale with a small slightly off-white dirty head with average retention. Aroma of sweat malt with subtle hints at dry fruits. Aroma is mix between some roasted malt with some dry fruits sweetness. Body is a bit thin for my own liking and alcohol shows a little bit. I would have liked a bit more of a smoky/peat aroma to make this truly wonderful but this is a very good beer nonetheless.

Bottle courtesy of Black95tt: Poured a light orangey color ale with a good foamy head with little retention. Aroma of spices is clearly dominating with some traces of the Belgian yeast. The spices that probably include coriander also dominate taste as well as slightly funky yeast, some sweet malt and a light dry finish. Alcohol is well masked which I appreciated but body was a bit too watery for the style.

Bottle provided by Odeed, Thanks Jake! Nose was hops, hops, and more hops, along with a citrus hint; Golden color with a good off-white head. Flavor of hops and more hops without being overly bitter, and a little caramel. Almost as good as Hopsicle

bottle, enjoyed at the Sunset Grille in Boston - Poured reddish brown with a thin head that left some decent lacing. The aroma is malty with some dark fruit notes and a hint of alcohol. The alcohol is a little more noticeable in the flavor, but I didn’t mind. The sweetness, fruit notes, caramel, and other flavors come to the fore. The finish lingers pleasantly as the warmth hits your stomache. For some reason the flavor reminded me a bit of Fuller’s Vintage Ale 2001, though even sweeter. Decadence is very good.

bottle - Pours crystal clear, says the commercial description? hah... no, I poured slowly and there was no way this ale was going to come out crystal clear. Pours a murky brown with a thin head, almost nonexistent head. It has a very pleasant, assertive aroma of yeast, malt, and dark fruit. It tastes very sweet. There’s plenty of malts and candi sugar in there. The yeast comes through as well as some mild dark fruit notes. The high abv is masked by the sweetness. I wouldn’t have known it was 10% if I hadn’t read the bottle first. The finish is smooth and dry. This is another high quality ale from Alesmith.

2005 bottle Nose of plums and berries, and vanilla, after a couple of minutes malty tones added in; earthen red-brown color with a tiny amount of beige head, but lots of bubbles clinging to the inside of the glass, Malty, caramelly flavor, with a tart finish. 2000 Bottle Odeeds Beer Tasting 9/27/06 Brought by Odeed; Very smooth; better than 2005Raisin taste in the finish; rerate!
