Pours a hazy yellow gold with a light head. Aromas of yeast, cloves, and banana. A little sour. Vanilla, bananas, yellow apples, and hop flavors.

Dusty 330 ml bottle at Kulminator. 2008 vintage. Pours a very dark brown with reddish tint and nice persistent head. Aromas of malt and brown sugar toffee. Rich and smooth, with spicy, toffee, and roasted malt flavors. Warm but good balance. A great beer.

Dumpy 33cl brown bottle (best before 8th Apr 2011) poured into a Westmalle chalice on 23rd Oct 2010. Some of the sediment got into the glass but it still looked good, ruby red body with an off-white head, a bit thin but still a complete covering throughout the tasting. The aroma was a mild malty molasses mix with toffee and chocolate coming through, but not an ’in your face’ sweet, sickly smell. Interesting taste, malts dominate, semi-sweet like the aroma but with more coffee and chocolate than the toffee mentioned earlier. Not too sure where the alcohol is being hidden because this isn’t a thick or heavy beer. It doesn’t even seem to appear as the mouth dries and the hop content leaves a slightly bitter dark chocolate aftertaste in the mouth. A very drinkable brew although I’m sure the alcohol would come back and get you in the end if you had more than a couple.

Brown 33cl dumpy bottle, best before 19 May 2011, poured into a Westmalle chalice on the afternoon of 18 Nov 2010. No sediment left the glass, so it looked as the brewer intended: a slightly hazey dull golden beer with a thin white covering for a head. The aroma was of freshly baked biscuits, Scottish Shortbread actually, made with butter! The taste was devine, sharp, crisp and flavoursome. Yeast overtones, biscuity (like the shortbread aromas) and semi-sour all at the same time. The alcohol lingering in the background giving the whole experience an extra edge. I really, really liked this beer. Not too sure how many different Belgian tripels I’ve had, certainly more than 20 anyway, but this is right up there with the best. I’ll be buying this again.

On tap at the 16th Essen Christmas beer festival (2010): drank the day before my new friends Brabander and Beerpirates arrived at the fest (the draught ran out, hence they had the bottled version to review). The one and only barrel available being matured for one year before being breeched for the festival. Pours a really dark reddy brown, almost black in colour, the head a mid tan. The smell was a pleasant mix of liquorice and ground coffee. The liquorice dominated the taste, it’s flavours overcoming even the sweet molasses and bitter coffee taste that didn’t show up until the mouth began to dry. The alcohol content well hidden behind the strenght of flavours wasn’t noticeable until the very end of each sip. Pleasant, but not brilliant.

Bottle. Deep amber/brown body with a big, frothy beige head, mostly lasting. Musty aroma with notes of raisins, toffee, chocolate. The flavor is moderately sweet and lightly to moderately bitter. It finishes lightly to moderately sweet and moderately bitter. Medium body, watery texture and lively carbonation. Good, but not as bold in the flavor as its 8.8% alcohol and aroma would lead you to believe.

Bottle. 2009 vintage. Almost clear, light amber/deep golden liquid with small to medium white head. Aroma of banana, horseblanket (funk), wheat, bubblegum and red fruits/berries. Taste is light to medium sour, light sweet with no bitterness with notes of belgian yeast esters and funk. Light to medium bodied with high carbonation. Interesting blend but it doesn’t work to well. Too much overripe bananas for my taste.

Had this from bottle at Vilvordia Bier Proef Festival, Jette, Brussels, Belgium Sat 24th March 2012 with Loz and in company of Simon, Jackie & David Pours hazy gold with a large white frothy head. The aroma is a little strange and I can only describe it as being a little like pondweed, however the taste is very good. I’m getting some good vanilla flavours coming through along with a nice punchy hoppiness, its a tasty beer. Good start so far. A6 A3 T8 P4 Ov13 3.4

Draft at Klooster. Brown pour with off white head. Fudgey vanilla aroma. Flavour also has fudge and vanilla with a little funk. Finish is pure fudge
