Description
In 1981, Peter Mauldon, the great grandson of Anna Maria decided to re-establish the family tradition and start a brewery in Sudbury once again. Peter had been too young to be involved in the original family business and had previously pursued a career with Messrs. Watney where he progressed to Head Brewer at the company’s large Mortlake Brewery.

12 Apr 2012: hand-pulled pint in my local Wetherspoons. Black as the ace of spades with very little head showing, this looked a mean brew. The aroma given off was of roasted, slightly burnt malts with a nutty feel (like an over cooked nut roast, that veggie’s eat). Sweeter in the mouth than the nose: some caramel hints in with the malty nut roast. Deep and thick bodied, couldn’t call it ‘rich’ or ‘creamy’, but certainly had a depth of flavour. An OK Stout.

Dark brown, tan head, good lacing
Aroma of blackberry sweet jam, soft dark malts, mellow roast
Taste of blackberry jam, dark caramel malts, soft roast, mellow, very fruity jammy, maybe too jammy,
Palate - soft carb, medium body, sweet. Finish of soft roasted and more sweet jammy fruits
Overall - Good fruity porter initially, but maybe a bit one-dimensional and too jammy - still a nice brew though

Not a great aroma for a wheat, but it has an excellent smooth style in this category and is very tasty.

Cask at the Crosse Keys, JDW, London. Pours clear gold with a tight foam head. Faint, sweet dough aroma. Medium sweet flavor with creamy malts and some leaves. Medium bodied with fine, smooth carbonation. Sweet finish with some toasty sugar, faint caramel and leafy bitterness. Uninspiring - could be in poor shape.
