Bottle: Poured a reddish brown amber with a thick off white head. The aroma was sweet fruit and floral. The taste was complex malt blend almost tasted like it was smoked and very rich finish. After a long search it seems this beer matched all my expectations.

0.25l bottle - rerate. Peachy, fresh citric, from alive and kicking belgian yeast. Cloudy yellow, low white head. Nice fruity base flavor, light nutmeg, coriander, clementines retronasal. Medium body, fine sparkly mouthfeel. Fresh and enjoyable. Thanks a lot for the opportunity to rerate this one pivnizub, the old rating was obviously from a dud: 6/3/6/2/8 Vineous, spiced wooden and light vinegarry aroma. Amber, low head. Lightbodied - overattenuated, wooden and dusty, some coriander. Adding the yeast does not improve the substance a lot. Wooden aftertaste.

Bottle: Poured a hazy reddish dark brown with off white bubbly head. The smell is sweet fruit. Sweet metallic spice malt with a candi caramel finish.

Re-rate 4/21/13: Bottle from my cellar shared at kerenmk’s place. Best before 2008. Dark brown with a beige head. Aroma of chocolate, raisins, prunes, caramel and light oxidation. Sweet flavor with malt, caramel, dark fruits, a bit of chocolate, sherry notes and a bit of licorice and alcohol. Medium-bodied. Still pretty nice after all these years, but I think it’s better fresher. Score is not calculated. 7/3/7/3/14=3.4
Re-rate 7/12/10: Bottle from my cellar sampled at a tasting. Best before 2008. Like every time with Abbaye des Rocs, there’s a big gusher when the bottle is opened. Hazy brown color. Aroma of dark fruits, caramel and a bit of vinous notes. Sweet flavor of malt, brown sugar, plums, cherry notes, a bit of berries and a bit of fruity acidity. Medium-bodied. Lighter in body and flavor than how I remember it, but still tasty and flavorful. 7/4/7/3/15=3.6
Re-rate 4/22/08: Bottle. Best before 2008. Dark brown color with a big long-lasting beige head. Aroma of malt, caramel, dark fruits, some roasted notes and some cocoa. Rich sweet malty flavor with plums and some prunes and raisins, mild spiciness and a bit of alcohol towards the finish. Rather full-bodied. Not a 4.7 like I’ve rated it before but a really great one nonetheless. I need to try another fresh one someday. 8/5/8/4/17=4.2

Bottle. Color is dark brown, with a a large beige head. A wonderful complex aroma, with sweet malts, caramel, raisin, and some more layers I can’t put my finger on. Great malty flavour with some hop bitterness, dark fruits, caramel and an alcoholic edge. Soft sweet finish. Full body.9/5/9/4/18=4.5

Aroma is lovely sweet malts and a bit of citrus. Flavor is strong maltiness, some citrus (lemon mostly), spices, a bit of acidity and some alcohol. Finish is bitter hops. A medium to full body, soft mouthfeel.

Bottle courtesy of Adrian910ss: Poured a cloudy dark brown color ale after some gushing, with a big foamy head with great retention. Aroma of candi sugar, strong Belgian malt and slightly funky yeast. Taste of sweet Belgian malt with nice candi sugar and funky yeast prove a balance and complex beer. Body is above average with low filtration and great carbonation. Alcohol is well hidden. Another great beer from this fine Belgian brewery.

Copper colour with a lasting off-white head. Big, complex aroma - raisins, dates, blackcurrant, port. Quite sweet and full bodied.
2014 rerate. This really is good. When de Rocs are good, they are really good.

Bottle. Creamy white excellent fully lasting head. Amber colour. Powerfull malty and hoppy aroma. Really fantastic complex beer. Gtreat taste long powerfull finish. Very oily palate. This is good stuff.

This is the first product I have had from this brewer. Sampled on draft at Zeno’s in State College PA This beer poured a murky brown color with a small dark tan head. The aroma is spritzy, hoppy and fruity with a caramel undertone. The mouthfeel is fairly thick. The flavor is pineapple, caramel, orange zest and brown sugar. Hides the alcohol very well. Very tasty.
