Description
Hawkstone is the brainchild of Jeremy Clarkson and Rick and Emma from the Cotswold Brew Co. Having put blood, sweat and tears into cultivating his malting barley, Jeremy was determined that it be put to good use, so resolved to supply it directly to a local brewery to turn into lager. He was introduced to Rick and Emma from the Cotswold Brewery by the landlord at their local and they hit it off immediately. Like Jeremy, they’re committed to supporting local agriculture but they’re not just good people, they’re also excellent brewers. They created Hawkstone Lager - a brew of such exquisite quality that Jeremy decided to invest.

Pint at Craftys in Letchworth. Not the best pint and a bit too warm for a lager which impacted on the taste. This is a standard lager, not much taste and very simple.

Clear, golden, with a small white head. Malty, lemony aroma. Pleasant malty flavour, with a touch of grass and lemon. Medium-bodied, dry, with a herbal-metallic bitterness. An average light lager, but without flaws, there's nothing to complain about.

Keg at The Oyster Shed, City. Clear copper gold. Foamy white head. Aroma is sweet. Malts. Honey. Slightly bitter edge. Flavourwise it's similar. Sweet honey and dough. Light. Thin. Soft-fizzy carbonation. Long dry slightly astringent finish. Helles-esque. Not bad.

330ml bottle bought at a tourist shop in Bourton-on-the Water, Cotswold. Shared with Finn. Pours a bubbly chalk white head leaving spotty lacing behind, next-to-clear amber-gold body. Inviting aromas of grassy hops and grainy malts. Rather rich taste character with moments of green hops, grass, and mid-sweet malts followed by leafy hop bitterness to the ending. Like it.
