Cask at Lime Kiln, Liverpool. Pours “bitter brown” with a small off-white head and good lacing. Malts are prominent in the nose, along with some hints of vanilla. Malts again in the mouth plus an overall woody texture and some underlying caramel. Traces of coffee, vanilla and ginger too. Finish is quite dry. This is nice and well balanced.

Keg at I&G Dundee. It pours near black with a thick, fluffy deep tan head. The aroma is toasty malt, rich roasted malt, umami, charred oak, bitter dark chocolate, dull smoke, powdered milk chocolate and some meatiness. The taste is dry, quite bitter, charred, umami, oak, cacao, plain chocolate, smoked malt, roasty, toasted action and light sweetness with a drying, toasty finish. Light body and fine, massaging carbonation. A bit thin and lacklustre.
