Description
Located on the Oregon Coast, de Garde Brewing is dedicated to unique offerings. Our craft draws on historic traditions and local experimentation.

But wait... what does that mean?

First off, we do not add laboratory cultured yeast to ferment our beer. We simply cool the wort naturally in a coolship. Amazing yeast & microflora are all around us! That's why we're in Tillamook!

After the wort cools, we transfer everything to oak barrels (some big, some small, some medium). Each beer takes it's own time in barrels to finish fermenting.

Most of our beers take anywhere from 6 months to 5+ years in barrels before we package them.

Every bottle is naturally conditioned and ready to be enjoyed when we release it. Although the beer can age, please note the fruit and hop additions will dissipate with extended time.

But most importantly, we hope you enjoy!
Cheers!

Bottle thanks to Bruce. It pours hazy pink with a small pink head. The nose is cat litter, barnyard, funk, damp wood and must. The taste is crisp, fresh, lactic, minerals, mouth-puckering tartness, blueberry skin and blackcurrant skin with a short, dry finish. Light - medium body and moderate carbonation. Crisp, tart and pretty damn drinkable. Shame about the nose, but pretty good anyhow.

Bottle at RBWG 2014. Pours a cloudy peach with a tan head that lasts throughout the beer. Aroma has musty grain and funk with a good amount of menthol and a hint of gin. Flavor has more gin presence with grains, light grass and funk as well as earthy fruit backing.

Light amber golden colour, slightly hazy, white head. Sour aroma, wood, fruity, nuts. Only a light hint of grapes. Yeast profile reminding of standard American sours. Sour flavour, candy, tart, citric acid, acetic, hint of solvent, light sweetness. Sour finish, gooseberries. Decent.

750 ml. bottle obtained in a trade with digita7693. Thx! Shared with multiple people. Very minor gusher, just some foam coming out. First glass pours a hazy orange, gets quite hazy near murky reddish orange, touch brown afterwards, little in the way of head, only an off-white rim on the sides of the glass. Nose is tart musty overripe red fruits, quite murky with vinegar, some oak, overripe red grapes, touch wine vinegar, sour profile is reminiscent of the standard sour mix that a lot of craft brewers use. Taste is similar murky overripe red grapes, touch red fruits, musty oak barrel, lots of the previously said profile, old barrels, quite tart and vinegary in the end with the profile. Fine carb. lots of shredded fruits in the feel. I was told that this was spontaneously fermented so I expected a unique and wild profile but this was the same to the standard mix that a lot of breweries use in its sour profile as well as quite vinegary. Too bad even if quite an enjoyable beer and I definitely enjoyed drinking it.

Bottle shared late night RBWG. Pours murky gold with a frothy white head. Lots of herbs on the nose, basil, some tangy citrus. Light sweet flavor, quite herbal, a touch meaty, some bitter hay. Light bodied with fine carbonation. Mild warmth to finish, bitter dried herbs, subtle tangy citrus. OK.

On tap at Belmont Station's Bier Cafe, pours a hazy golden with a medium off-white creamy head. Aroma is a weird jumbled mix of spices, such as rosemary and sage, and other herbal notes. Flavour is bizarre, bringing out notes of lemon zest, various spices, and weird wild notes. Not my favourite mix of spices, especially in a beer. ABV is nowhere to be detected, but that's hardly a redeeming quality when the flavours are this unpleasing. Not very good.

750mL bottle, pours a deep dark brown with a small tan head. Nose is rather nasty, with old coffee, combined with tart dark fruits - the combo doesn't really work here. Flavour is just as weird, with very tart dry dark fruits, followed by stale coffee. This combo just doesn't work at all. Not palatable beyond a few sips. Drain pour.

750ml bottle pours an inky, caramel amber with some bright, white head. Nose has some tart berry, dried cocoa powder, red grape, musty. Flavor is lightly sweet, nice crackery malt, some green bell pepper, some acid, almost some rice wine vinegar, raisin, red grape, tomato, bread crust. Slightly acetic but refreshing finish. Very unique. Many components, but they don’t mesh well together.
