From a 660 ml bottle shared at home. Pours a clear deep mahogany with an ecru head. Vanilla nose. Flavors of bourbon, oak and vanilla. Smooth, rich finish. Yum

A murky orange amber ale with thick frothy lacing off white head. In aroma, nice biscuit malt with loads of smooth Brett notes, light tropical fruits, faint pine needles, very nice. In mouth, a nice sweet fruity biscuit malt with smooth Brett notes, light grassy hops, light mineral notes, nice and smooth. Bottle from Marché des Brasseurs d’ici, Eddy St. Gatineau.

250 ml. draft @ Chez Moeder Lambic Fontainas. Very dark brown, head is a big layer of smallish tanned bubbles. Nose is huge cough syrup, mixed with rum, cooked apples, brown sugar,… Taste is very heavy cough syrup with lots of rum, touch watery, cooked apples, spices, alcohol, warming, tea,… Watery but also syrup. Weird beer, so much cough syrup & rum, this feels like something I would drink if I were sick. I kind of like but the heavy rum & cough syrup profile is a weird one. I went from nearly disliking to enjoying it over the course of a glass. Still weird.

A (very wise) grab from my recent trip to Montreal to get my son all Belgium-citizened up. My first Castor, but certainly not my last despite the difficulties (damn you LCBO). Pours golden haze with a decent fluffy white head. Nose is all funk, sour goodness of sharp vinegar and pineapple-gone-wrong. Taste is light on the malt, and light sharp vinegar, mildy sweet buried in the back with all that saison yeast. Really, really nice.

650mL bottle, sent from yourilevesque (thanks a lot, Youri), pours black with a small tan head. Aroma brings out lots of spicy rye barrels, earth and roast. Flavour is complex, with the earth, rye barrels and dry roast. Complex and well-balanced. Wonderfully done.

650mL bottle, sent from yourilevesque (thanks a lot, Youri), pours a hazy amber orange with a small white head. Aroma is very hot, with paint thinner, caramel, and rum - very boozy as well. Flavour is very hot, with notes of rum, sweet dried fruits and caramel. Despite being boozy, it is very cohesive. Very nice.

Draft - Nutty, coconut and bourbon notes. Jet brown with a decent light brown head. Toffee no dark chocolate, cocoa notes and a solid finish. Solid.

Bottle pours out a caramel amber color topped with a small sand head. Nose is sweet rum barrel notes vanilla toffee honey. Taste is more of the sweetness rum barrel vanilla toffee and lots of caramel.

Cask at Moeder Lambic Fontainas, 20/11/15. Rich chestnut brown with a well appointed beige covering. Nose is figgy pudding, toffee, dark fruits, rum barrel, toasted brown sugars. Taste comprises rich fruits, dates, light chocolate, toffee fudge, light spice, molasses, sweet figgy jam. Full bodied, soft carbonation, semi drying close with a rising boost. Pretty boozey but a good balance... sweet but not OTT.
