Description
Stack Brewing was launched right here in Sudbury in June of 2013. The idea came about by Shawn Mailloux, a fan of good beer, born and raised right here in the Nickel City. After years of drinking beers that were not quite right for him and his friends, he decided to brew a beer that would appeal to casual and seasoned beer drinkers alike.

Not sure what an ISA is, but I know this was brewed with Nelson sauvin hops. The aroma shows off the hops a little, there is a tangy, green, vinous, acidic hop aroma. But once again, the diacetyl is there like most of the beers from this brewery. A thick aroma of butter, and caramel. The body, and carb are good. The finish is medium to high on the bitterness. The hops are floral, and green, and pleasant in the finish. But the malts are masked by a thick buttery flavour.

Can from the brewery, beer number one in their limited refinery series. Slightly hazy brown pour, with a tiny white head that dissipated quickly. The aroma is pretty mute, the slightest aroma of nuttiness, with some musty apples, and a touch of caramel malts. So far, im not impressed. Mouth feel is a tad wetery, and the carb is very soft. Finish is more musty apples, with a loght roast, and some subtle nuts. This is on par with an extract homebrew kit.

Growler from the brewery. Dark pour, almost back, with a huge beige head that dissipates quickly. Malted wheat aroma with lots of cloves, and more of that homebrew musty apple, wet paper aroma. Nice mouth feel and carb. The finish is quite roasty, with some nuttiness, and touches of chocolate malt. The has a textbook homebrew flavor. This tastes just like a dunkelwiesen I brewed from and extract kit.

Can from the brewery.
Clear copper pour, with a huge off white head.
Aroma wet paper, and butter (diacetyl?), and some light fresh cut grass. Super soft mouth feel and carb. The finish is again very buttery with some light grassy hops. It’s quite bitter and it lingers quite a bit. Light pale malts with some crackery flavours round it out. I can’t pick put much hops at all. I think this could have used some more time in the fermenter to allow the yeast to clean up some of these off flavours.

750ml bottle from the brewery.
Hazy golden pour, with a big white rocky head. Right offf the bat, there is an aroma of malted grains mixed in with some perfumy, herbacious notes of rosemary and some juniper that also border on pine. The mouth feel is standard, and the body is just fine. There isnt much making me think of a saison here, just reminds me of a belgian ale, there are some slight fruits and yeasty esters in here too. Low bitterness, and a herby, grassy, rosemary finish. Interesting brew, but o dont see myself looking out for it.

On tap at Hardrock 42 in Sudbury. Good orange pour, with nice off white head. Nice hoppy aroma, some good pine, medium to light citrus, and whoa there is a big malt bill backing up these hops. Big notes or caramel malts and grains. The malts and hops do battle again in the finish, the hops are there, but the alts win out and thefinish is quite sweet, with a tad weak bitterness and light citrus. The mouthfeel is a little heavy, but the carbonation is quitegood. Overall a great first attempt.

Growler from the brewery. Golden/copper pour, with a small off white head. Aroma is timid on the hops, very light, with some subtle pine resin notes also. The bitterness is very low, with some slight citrus pith. There is a pleasant candied citrus zest finish, but again, like the 4x4 there is some evidence of diacetyl.

Growler from the brewery. Clear golden pour, with a small white head. Light lemon zest aroma, with some light, pale malts, and some straw, grassy notes, and quite a bit of diacetyl.. The body is perfect, the mouth feel is clean, and crisp. The finish has some decent cereals, lightly bitter, but quite a bit of butter (diacetyl). This isn’t hoppy enough to be an APA, but it fits nicely into the English pale ale category, too bad it tastes like it was rushed, hence the butter diacetyl flavor.

Growler from the brewery. Black pour, small mocha colored head. Good roasty aroma, lots of coffee, and some cocoa powder. The chocolate is there but not as upfront as i expected. Its a good stout, great roasted malts and coffee finish. As it warms to chocolate comes more to the forefront, a solid stout.

Growler from the brewery. A malt forward ale with load of spicing. Sweet caramel malts, with lots of cinnamon, cloves and cardamon. The alcohol really comes through as it warms, the finish is quite herbal and sweet, with a big kick of cloves.
